OT Could this be a scam? | Arthritis Information

This morning a man called me. Stated that he was from a company called credit card services. He told me that experion(sp?) had actually connected him with my number. He gave me his name and employee ID number...or whatever that is. My caller ID had a Miami Florida number on it. He told me that he wanted to lower all my credit card interest rates as experion had informed him that I was in good standing with my creditors. I talked to him for a while and then he asked me for the 800 number of one of my credit cards and then he wanted the last four digits of my social security number as well as my zip code. I told him I did not feel comfortable giving him this info, besides, I was in the bath tub at the time, LOL. He told me he would call me back on Saturday. After he hung up, I called back the number on my caller ID and it was a disconnected number.

What do you guys think? If I had given him the numbers he requested, would he have been able to gain access to my credit card numbers and acct information?

I could hear lots of people in the back ground talking to other customers so it really did sound legit to me. That background talking could have been a recording.  Glad you didn't give him any info!  I wouldn't do anything like over the phone - ask them to send you something in the mail, so look can look over the fine print.

legitimate credit card companies don't call you like that.  they never ask for your ss number.  and the credit bureau's do not contact any credit card company about someone's superior credit rating

yeah..it was a scam
I've been getting calls like that at the office lately. It says they can lower the interest rate on my credit cards considering my credits in good standing. Huh? This is a business. Who exactly are you calling? I usually just hang up; but any time I've said "Do you realize you are calling a business?" They say I'm sorry. I didn't realize.

They must just call numbers at random and hope to get a sucker once in a while. No doubt it works.

I'd always advise asking for information on them before giving out information on yourself. Make sure it checks out before ever giving any info to them. If they won't give you a exact name and working number you can trace I would steer clear.

Actually....I'd steer clear all together!! Things happen so easily that can ruin what good credit you may actually have. It's a real shame you can't trust people....but it's happening all too often.
IT was  a SCAM.  What I have heard these guys are almost impossible to catch but you could report it to the U.S. Attorney General I think.  So bad.SCAM, SCAM, SCAM.  If I gave them the last four digits of my SS number and my zip code along with the 800 number of my credit card, how could they get the info they need?Lorster,

Go to www.800notes.com and type in the 800 number or 866 or any number and they will probably have good information for you.
