HI  All,

I am new to the site and am hoping il find support and advice that i feel i am really missing at the moment..
here is my story so far - I am a 29yr old female i have been suffering from hip pain for 10yrs but this was never investigated as i was being treated for a heart complaint , finally last summer i got so bad that i could no longer go up and down stairs , this had happened lots of times before but usually would only last a few days at the most, my doc ordered an xray and refered to an osteo/surgeon while we waited for the results, ..when i saw him he dx right away with osteoarthritis in both hips, left was worse than right,

jump on a year and i am in constant agony , i cant sleep , i cant walk any distance or stand for long at all, i am currently on - diclofenic 50mg x3-   oxycontin 30mg x2

i have got another app on the 12th of this month and want some advice please,
i cant take anymore , im crying lot due to the pain, i have 3 young children to look after and
i feel like this will last forever,
last yr my surgeon told me he wants to buy  as much time as possible before surgery due to my age which i understand but my quality of life is so bad right now and has been for 9months now ,( is it weird that i have got sooo much worse in jus that time?)  and for the last 2 months i have been getting pain in my knees too, il ask the osteo when i see him but i have a feeling that this is the same as the pain that started in my hips 10yrs ago

when do they decide enough is enough ? is it judged on xray results  id be so greatfull for some advice
sorry for the essay

Emma

Only YOU can determine when you have had enough, and the doc should be willing to listen.  When my knees went, we tried the injections to no avail, and when I finally said "I'm ready, I can't take it any more" he scheduled my replacement.  It was SO worth it for me.  I am older than you (51 now) but still considered young for replacement.  I had my first knee done at 45.thank you for your reply Nancy
im seeing my surgeon on friday , im really hoping there is something else they can do or they will agree to surgery soon

Have you looked into hip resurfacing?  It is fairly new, but highly recommended for younger patients, as there is much less bone lost, so if additional surgery is required in the future, there is a higher success rate, as they have more bone to work with.

Did your doctor say anything about hip dysplasia?  I have always had problems with my hips, and now am also in the same position as you.  I just learned recently that the cause of my OA was developmental hip dysplasia, which is basically very shallow hip sockets.

In the meantime, ask your doctor about getting a cortizone shot.  I had one a month ago, and I am still doing well.  It isn't a permanent fix, but I feel so much better right now, and the world seems a much better place than it did before!  I was actually able to dance at my daughter's wedding, and I can sleep through the night without waking up everytime I move!

I've had OE in small finger joints for several years.  Recently found a plant derived suppliment in which has helped me manage pain without the need for drugs.  It contains things like Resveratrol, Phytosterols, Turmeric rhizome, Resveratrol, Proprietary Protease Blend.  Name of the suppliment is bounceback.  My situation is certainly not as critical as yours, but  just want to pass on anything that might help.  Check with your docter, see if it is something they would recommend in your situation.
