Question for other diabetics w/ RA | Arthritis Information

I am an insulin dependant diabetic who also has RA.  Since beginning treatment for the RA, I have had an increase in infections such as insulin pump site skin infections and UTI infections.  I'm wondering if anyone else is dealing with these problems too.  Right now I'm on methotrexate and plaquenil, and it frightens me to think that my infections could be much worse and more frequent if/when I have to start enbrel or humira!  I say this because I'm under the impression that those meds may play a bigger role when it comes to causing infections, is that right?  Do any other diabetics worry about this?  I'm not diabetic - my hubby is - and really can't reply except to say have you considered AP?  If you want more info, check out www.roadback.org.

PS - you might consider adding in Probiotics to see if it helps with the infections.  It won't cure it but it might help you fight them off better.
Thank you, Pip for the great information and suggestion!  I appreciate it.

Hi,

I'm an insulin dependant diabetic too.  I also take MTX and plaquinel.  Unfortunately, I am not on the pump so I can't answer your questions about the skin infections.  I have not had any other infections like UTI but I noticed a cut on my leg that is healing really slowly.  I'm just going to continue to monitor it.  Good luck, hopefully someone can answer your questions about the pump site.  Hiking_gal

You're welcome and *bump* so the site injection part can be answered.
