I've been watching this forum for awhile. I have ra. Have had it for almost 18 years. I have been on every med there is and either failed it or had a reaction to it. I work as a new construction plumber, well I stand as a plumber. My helper does all the work. Lucky for me, my boss's daughter has ra as well, so he understands what I'm going through. I'm a 38 y.o. male. If that matters. So I figured it was time for me to join.  Sorry you have to join the group.  Welcome though, you'll get some good adviceHi and welcome to the forum.  I lived in NPR back in the 60's for about a year.  Hope to see you posting.  LindyNPR? GG2008-09-08 16:23:51Welcome!  So great that your boss is understanding...Welcome! Sorry you are one of the people who seems not to respond to meds- that does really suck!Hi there   Welcome to the board!Welcome, sorry you have to be here but there is great advice and great people.  The best is the great people and their advice.

Welcome,
Reegie
Hi and welcome from me too! I'm glad you decided to speak up. RA does suck!
I like your screen name. Over the 18 years did you have anytime where you got a break from the ra monster or has it pretty much been kicking you? Has any of those meds worked for awhile and then just quit? Sorry to be so nosy but I am curious. I hope it did give you some breaks.
I just fired my rd of three years and go next Monday to a new one and I am anxious and hope I like her.
Anyways, nice to meet ya!

Hi and welcome!

Pip
Well, remicade worked for about 4 months. They dripped it over a 2 hr period, I believe. Then all of a sudden I had a reaction to it. My whole body started burning. Started with my head and working to my feet. Face was real red. Chest pains and shortness of breath. After that reaction, it stopped working. I was getting 9 vials. Well actually after the reaction they dripped it for about 7 hours. No reaction but it stopped working. That was about 2 years ago. he just did it again last month. This time, the gave me 10mg out of the 600 for the 1st hour to see how I would do. As the hour ended I had the same reaction. So no more remicade. Had a reaction to enbrel, plaquenail, arava. Been on these and nothing Humira, kineret, orencia, um what else. So I don't know. Don't kow how much more I can take to be honest. Thanks for the warm welcome r_a_reallysux2008-09-08 20:30:17You should like me I had reactions to several meds and couldn't take them. I took humira for 8 months and it didn't work. Also plaquenil for 6 months, nothing. I am on enbrel and do ok for a couple days a week but when this prescription card runs out in Dec. I won't be able to afford it. Should be a law against what they can charge on these meds. I hope you are able to take pain meds at least they help me some. Some days, nothing helps. Does the humidity bother you  down in FL? Humidity here in IL does me bad!
I hope they find you something to help you.

Hope that something will come along soon that is of some benefit to you.
lorrie2008-11-21 22:25:59Hi RAR, and welcome to this forum, like you, I watched for a while and then joined, you will meet, and get great advice from all the guys here.Glad you are a man, we need all the help we can get on this board.

We are outnumbered at least 20 to 1 and I'm growing tired by the day.
Welcome. Welcome RAR,

Sorry to hear the medications aren't working.  This is a great place for support and to vent.  Welcome to the boards...Hiking_gal
Hello!  Welcome!Welcome. I'm at the early stages of trying to find the right med combo. It must suck to not have much for results, and with all the reactions you've had. I hope you find some relief soon.
Visiting this forum is wonderful, because we can all relate to how you feel. It's a great support system. Kinda like therapy!

Yay.............another guy on the board.  Sorry about you having to join, but welcome!  Look forward to your posts.Welcome, though I am sorry you have to be here. You'll love all the knowledgeable people here! Great tips and ideas to try. I hope your pain is tolerable since the meds don't seem to be working. Maybe it's just a matter of trying  to find the right combonation of meds? You know, a little of this and a little of that.... seems to work for some people. I currently am off my meds because it doesn't seem to be working. I think my rheumy wants to re-try embrel again this week - we'll see
Glad to meet you and hope to see you post often!

Oh I forgot I was on Rituxan b4 that last dose of remicade last month. Currently I'm taking 8 2.5mg mtx a week, 1 mg folic acid daily, 2 100 mg minocycline daily, azathioprine 50 mg 2x a day, 40 mg er oxycontin 2x day, 4-5   7.5/750 mg vicodin a day. een on Sulf, eery nsaid, pograf, not cellcept but the other one like it. More 'm sure. I guess my rd thinks I have some rare type  ra since I'm not responding to any medications. Just had surgery on my left elbow for the 2nd time in july 07. With no joint left in it, bone was rubbing on bone and wore a hole in the head of the radial. Next step is joint replacement they say. Tons of bone and cart distruction in both my wrists. I have no mobility in them. Ulnar deviation. Fingers on right hand and starting to turn and twist, its in my fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, feet, and I feel like it is in my shoulders and my neck. Not sure if the humidity really bothers me since I hurt all the time. I know when cold fronts or tropical storms, any kind of low pressure I hurt. About 2-3 days in advance. What part of illinois are you from cindee? Sorry post is so long.
Hi RARS, have you ever researched antibiotic protocol therapy? A lot of people had had success with it when everything else failed (some even before that point!)

Sorry you have to be here but welcome to the board. I see you have already met the resident troll(s?).Gimpy-a-gogo2008-09-09 13:18:25resident troll(s)?????Owiemom, I was referring to a different thread---present company excepted! How long have you been on Minocycline and please tell me that the doc put you on probiotics?  Please.  If not, run out now to Whole Foods or the local vitamin store and get the biggest bang for your buck.  Get the most 'live encapsulations' and the most strains.  Hurry!

Also, thank God you're here.  Poor Bodak is overwhelmed.

I missed that you said you were on minocycline...sorry for being such a bonehead. I'm right in the middle of Illinois. 20 miles to Springfield and 20 miles from Decatur. I live among the corn and the cows in the boondocks. Not too far from civilization.
How far are you away from the beach?
I used to clean for an elderly lady that lived here in summer and lived NPR in winter. Had a cleaning business until this ra decided to step in my life. Now I do good to get my own house clean. LOL
