OT Tear duct cauterization | Arthritis Information

My dry eye syndrome got so severe, I had my tear ducts caterized shut today, in an attempt to keep moisture in the eye as much as possible instead of draining down the duct into the nose.  My right eyelid is sticking to my eye overnight and when I wake up I have to force my eyelid open YUCK YUCK YUCK.  Oh, the joys of menopause.  He tried dissolving temporaries plugs to see if it helped, and I was really impressed, so he doesn't like the permanent plugs and at "your age" (don't you hate that saying) cauterization was fine.

Anyway, this is for you Joonie, the numbing of the area next to the nose was absolutlely the very very very worst injections I have ever had, and he goes "okay a little pinch".  Okay, not too bad.  Then "This is going to sting!"  UNDERSTATEMENT.  And he moved the needle around in four different directions and kept squirting in more numbing agent.  I was finished after the first shot and he had the other one to do too, but you just have to whimper and take it.

Luckily, there was no smell of my burnt human flesh.  The cauterization took about two minutes, tops.

I came home and collapsed into bed and slept for four hours, and so far so good.  It was hell driving home though with numb eyesockets.  Weirdness feeling in the world, I swear, well in my experience.

Conclusion:  growing old is not for sissies.  Plus his assistant needs a mortgage, so I might make money on this doctor's visit LOL
all I can say is ow,ow,owchie!!!! Tell him you want to be hit in the head with a 2X4 prior to this procedure if there is a next time. You are NO SISSY that's for sureYikes and you drove yourself home afterward! Hope it works to solve the problem!Just Say,

Thank Gawd that's behind you.  You drove yourself home?  Some of us would have had to been carried out after that experience w/shots.

Hope this puts the twinkle back in your eye

Glad they could fix you up "at your age."  Take care Just Say!  Hugs, Joy

Pip the big baby
TMI, arghh!  This seems really drastic but I guess it was necessary....they would have had to knock me out!  Take care and hope you're feeling good today.  LindyTake care.  You must be glad it is over.  I have not heard of this as a menopause occurence.  News to me!!!Thanks friends.  My mother begain to have it after menopause, this one is hereditary and exacerbated by the RA and DES exposure.  I am fine today, the right eye is tearing a little, which is good.  Dry is bad.  He also gave me a gel to use last night, and its outstanding.  Gel verses the saline washes and eye drops, or all three still - don't know yet.  I don't go back for three months.  No pain today at all :)  Cathy  PS  You could see okay and drive, it was just weird not being able to feel that part of your face for about 30-40 minutes LOLI had a severe corneal scratch a couple years ago.  I know, nowhere near as bad as your issues, but for a couple months I had to use lubricating eyedrops throughout the day and the eye gel goop at night.  When I woke up each morning it felt like I had to peel my eyelid off of my eye.  OMG it was horrible.  Hope you see some improvement with the latest treatment. Thanks Jas - it is awful, isn't it?  And I am just finally getting over the corneal ulcer in the left eye of maybe a year ago.  My hands and eyes, this is one scary disease.
Thanks Jas - it is awful, isn't it?  And I am just finally getting over the corneal ulcer in the left eye of maybe a year ago.  My hands and eyes, this is one scary disease.
Yea - when I initially went to the ER to get pain meds for the corneal scratch, I felt like a complete hypochondriac.  But then the doctor told me that corneal abrasions can be among the most painful injuries - even surpassing kidney stones!  And, having had kidney stones once, I have to agree with her.
I've had those a couple of times and they're awful.
