I have had a service for mymailstation with Earthlink which I want to stop. I will call to stop it, however I have heard reports that services are VERY difficult to stop. Anyone have experience stopping an Internet service? The fee is deducted from my checking account so if they don't stop it, I will just change my debit card.I changed from AOL to bellsouth with no problem, I just called the number, they said they would give me x number of months free if I stayed and I said no thanks and that was that.
I had a helluva time ditching Earthlink a while back. Customer service reps are over in India. The phone connection was bad and the employees were not well-versed in American English. It took me several phone calls over the course of a week to get the "service" (in quotes because they could not maintain a DSL connection to my house) disconnected. A word of caution about changing your debit card number - you can do that as a last resort, but the company can turn around and send your account to collections unless you successfully cancel it.
Best of luck!
I would make sure that you cancel in writing and fax it to make sure that it gets in someones hands. I do collections and you wouldn't believe some of the things these companies do about cancellations.
THanks for the replies. It sounds like something in writing shown to the bank would be a good idea. Will see about that.
Thanks again!!!!!
WHen I called to cancel, the guy sounded Indian. Guess he was in India!! The Earthlink website doesn't have a fax number so will have to write to Atlanta, with return receipt. to confirm cancellation and will talk to the bank. Better to be safe than sorry. Globalization does have its drawbacks!!I went to the bank, Bank of America. She said if they still deduct, B of A will go after them to get the money back. She said I could also get a temporary debit card. I think I will hope they do stop it and if they don't let THE BANK go after them. That should be effective. Hope they do what they are supposed to. I have no contract so may work out. THe people who had a problem stopping service I think had contracts.
