Plaquenil Question | Arthritis Information

I was put on Plaquenil when I was first diagnosed with RA 7 years ago. I was only on it for about 6 months, then was taken off and have progressed up the biologic ladder. I'm currently taking weekly Methotrexate injections and Orencia infusions once a month.

I went to see my RD yesterday, and he decided to add the Plaquenil back in, so I got the prescription filled today. When I picked it up this evening, it says to take two 200 mg. tablets daily. I was just wondering (since it doesn't specifically say on the container) if I can take them both at once, or if I should take one in the morning and one in the evening.

If I remember back 7 years ago, I believe I was splitting it up, taking one in AM and one in PM, but I'd like to know how everyone else takes it. Does it matter if it's taken all at once, or does it need to be split up?

SamanthaW2008-09-10 21:26:43 My rheumatologist had me start with one in the morning and one in the evening, and once I got used to it she said I could take both at once if I so choose.  Have a chat with the pharmacist and/or your doctor.

I generally take both at once, at night.  If I'm having stomach issues, I will take only 1 tablet.
JasmineRain2008-09-10 21:28:10Thank you JasmineRain! I take mine all at once always haveI take mine twice a day but I am thinking about going to once a day, skip the morning dose. I'm having so many stomach and headache issues with it right now. [QUOTE=lorster]I take mine twice a day but I am thinking about going to once a day, skip the morning dose. I found that when I started taking it at night I slept through any stomach issues it caused.
I have always taken it twice a day, and I've been on that med the longest...I take it twice a day. I remember my rd telling me that it didn't matter how/when you took it, but if you tend to get stomach upset on meds, than to spread them out. But, taking them both at night and sleeping through the  nausea would work too. Pretty much personal preference, but it doesn't matter. HTH
