Bone Scan | Arthritis Information

Does a normal bone scan mean no rheumatoid arthritis? THanks. I wouldn't think so....but I don't know. Haven't ever had a bone scan. Why did your doctor order one?was it a dexascan? That is to check for signs of osteoporosis.A dexascan is very quick and checks for osteo. A nuclear bone scan takes much longer. They inject the dye and you come back like 2hrs later. Then the camera moves super slowly inch by inch. This one checks for abnormal bone growth. Bones grow quickly to repair damage so it is often used to check for RA.The dexa scan (as stated above) cks for osteo and damage to bones. I am supposed to get one soon. I have lost one inch of height. I used to be 5 8 1/2 now I am 5 7 1/2. So I'm shrinking which I don't know but that can't be good. LOL

I had a dexascan too and my was fine, unremarkable if I recall.

I've had the nuclear bone scan when being diagnosed with RA, and again a year later.  I would think that RA would more likely show some activity, but I guess it would be possible that if caught early, the scan might show as normal.
