i think it has been about 2 years since i have been on medications, mtx,enbrel,predni8sone folic acid, tramadol. I say this summer was the best i have felt in years! It took about two years for me to stabalize. I am finally of the prednisone, and dont recomend it long term. I was wondering how long it took for you to really feel like a person again,to were your not exhasted and having to nap, where you can do stuff after work. I am there and pray to god my labs come back normal. I dont even have the acheyness when it rains(maybe a little tired) .

two years  to stablize??? You are scaring me here!

Hi NB, I'm so happy for you.  It feels great to be able to enjoy life again and I count my blessings each and everyday.

It took me about 5 years to find a combination of drugs that would work but then I was in a severe flare that lasted for 5 years and Pred. kept me alive.  When I started this journey my RF was 972 and that was 10 years ago and it went as high as 1100 but now all my labs are normal.

Avatar, don't be scared.  Not everyone has a severe onset of RA/PsA and I have the combinatio, so my onset and flares have been notoriously bad.  I had less pain from my total knee replacement than I had with onset and flares of RA/PsA.  Start your meds, and get the disease under control and in remission and you'll be fine.  Lindy
Every time i toot my horn(talk about feeling great) I begin to feel crappy, like today i feel tired, joints hurt, muscles ache. I just cross my fingers its one day and not a start of a flare. My brother has this disease as well,he has had it 5years longer than i. When i told him how great i was feeling he said"enjoy it while you can it wont last" that was a big downer!

Don't let it be a downer it is different for everyone. Like Lin I have been dealing with this for a long time. You have your good times and your bad times, you feel at times that there is no hope but that is not the way to be. Enjoy life and try to do the best you can, remember there is always hope, it just may take a little bit longer for some. I am now not able to take enbrel, hunmira, etc right now, my body is revolting against these meds so I just take the nsaids for now and maybe in couple more months I can start taking something that will help more. I have a severe flareup of psoriasis right now too and the meds for that aren't working either. You just learn to deal with what you are dealt and just keep moving, because you will have better days you just have to wait a little longer. So don't feel bad just think you have a whole bunch of new friends here that will support you through it all!!thanks meme, tell me more about your body not liking the meds? what was going wrong for you tio quit all of those meds?

The meds have cause the psoriasis to severely flare up it is on over 75% of my body and has become resistant to the meds. The meds were also causing other problems like cuts and bruises to become severely infected and causing lots of sinus infections too. So I was taken off evrything and now i have to wait for my body to get the rest of the combinations of meds out of my system and allow my body to rest from everything. I have a pretty normal life I work 40 or more hours a week as a clerk for an animal shelter, I have an "ebay store", a 14 yr old daughter, a husband, 5 cats, 2 rabbits, and a dog to chase after too. I get very tired but I am trying to make sure I sleep at least 7 hrs of sleep a night, dr wants me sleeping for 8 or more hours a night, but there is too much to do. I had a remission for awhile but that is over and so I just enjoy life as much as I can an try not to sweat over the small thing but I know I will still do that at times. DR says we will try new combos once my body is up to it which we hope is by Christmas. meme Hi Meme,

Can i ask you, how was your psoriasis before you started meds?  Was it over such a large percente of your body like it is now?
No it was on the scalp and a small piece on the lower back. The meds worked for awhile and then everything went kapoowee(?). My back is terrible and so are my legs and I have it across the front of my torso, still on the scalp in my ears and on my arms, and I do get flare ups in the groin area too. so far my face has not been affected, Thank goodness. I do have the terrible nails on several fngers too besides several bent under toes, which suprisingly do not hurt. I have been reading up on the studies being done on psoriaisis. One study had linked psoriasis with getting worse when you gain weight I still have to see what the results are if the patient looses weight though, does the flare up of psoriasis go away, does the skin actually get better after loosing weight. meme2008-09-23 14:54:04This is what i am scared of as well.  I have had psoriasis since i was little it has always been on my scalp a tad in my ears and on my elbows and under two nails on my toes but i don't have that pitting.  Recently i get a flare up in the lining of my nose and (not to be gross) but in the upper crack of my butt.  those two only flare occasionally.  I am soo afraid of going on meds for the PsA and it making my psoriasis spread all over my body which i have always had a fear of since i was little.  So far it has not been soo bad all these years and it even went away totally for a couple of years in my twenties.   I go to the Rhumey in Oct. a new one and i suppose i will have to start taking something, i am still lost and scared.  I feel like if i just leave it alone it won't get any worse.
I don't think weight is soo much the issue for flares as it is what you eat and i can say that stress does indeed make it worse. Im so sorry you are having such a flare up, it really stinks.  Diet is very important, i will look up what foods are good and bad  cause right now i can't remember yesterday.
Do you take tar baths? I know the smell is unpleasantly gross but they do help if you are hurting a little.

zanna, i also have psoriasis in the crack of by butt. (gross) It took me a long time to figure out it was psoriasis, and also around my nasal opening, and belly button. No where else thank goodness. My biggest problem is the arthritis and fatiuge. I was just writting on here a few weeks ago how great i felt. Now i am in a flare. When you get a tast of feeling good,it makes it all the more painful when you feel bad :(

It is something that will come and go over our entire life, who knows in a year I may be much better, Now about the meds. Part of the problem we think for causing what happen was I kept getting infectios, sinus, cold, etc. Everytime I had something come up I would have to go off the meds then it seem to aggravate the psoriasis and flare it up. So between using meds and not using meds it has beeen a back and forth game. We are now trying a couple different "remedies" to see if that will work, I haven't given up. Don't feel bad ladies things do get better and who knows you may hit the right combo of meds and never have to worry about the pa or your psoriasis getting any worse.
