Insurance problems anyone have them | Arthritis Information

Hi all, I have been down for about a month with an achillies tendon rupture not to mention severe pain in my back been through rounds of injections upper and lower back. Had my treatment of orencia yesterday only to come home and open my mail to see that my insurance dropped me. I have had bcbs for about 6 yrs they said they didn't recieve last months payment. I sent in my coupon with paying from my credit card which I have done a time or two before but the reason I did it was I ran out of checks. So they cancelled me but may reinstate me sent letter and money. My problem is that all the things including last months treatments have all been denied also all of this months stuff I have gone through has been denied was set up for epidural injection on Monday and physical therapy to start and now they called and said ins said I had no policy with them. I am screwed big time. I have been off my feet and in bed for weeks now. Anyone work with ins, have any insight to what I may be up against and what my nct move will be. It is my own policy. They said if they decided to reinstate then they would pay for all things out now. I had an MRI done last month and they got preapproved so can they not pay for what they approved. It just stinks and I am scared to death. I pray so hard that it is all going to work out but have a very bad feeling.  Why must they mess with our lives that way? I have heard about these horror stories but never thought it would happen to me. Thanks for any advice. What a scam. Sorry you're having to deal with this.Contact your credit card company to verify whether or not the insurance premium was billed to you. If so, contact bcbs with the info. Believe me bcbs won't argue with the credit card company. Hope this info helps.  * Gentle Hugs * Laura, I'm so sorry this has happened to you.  I've had that happen with other bills, but usually pointing out that I have always paid on time and this one got lost in the mail is enough.  However, with insurance and dates of service in the lapsed period, that is scary.  Only suggestion I have is for future, see if they will automatically deduct premiums from your bank account to avoid this possibility.  I hope you're able to get it worked out.

Hopefully, since you have paid on time for six years, this all will be straightened out.  If you have problems rectifying this, perhaps consider contacting your state representative, they could be of assistance.  Here in California, the State fined several insurance companies millions of dollars for illegally dropping insurees and ordered the insurance companies to pay the "dropped" insurees medical expenses.

In the future, if you want to pay by credit card, you might consider doing it over the phone, but be sure to get a confirmation number.

Good luck, I know this is a big headache, and when one is dealing w/RA and other health issues, who needs more stress.  Hang in there, post again, and let us know your progress.

If the premiums were not paid on time, it's most likely not illegal for the company to drop coverage.  It's a low-down dirty thing to do but not illegal.  I had a similar issue with car insurance in the past.  My payment didn't make it in for some reason, and of course I had an accident while my coverage was technically lapsed.  State Farm took care of the claim (and I must stress that technically they did not have to because I had violated MY end of our contract), and ever since then I've used the automatic payment option.  I believe there is a 30 day grace period after you receive notification of being dropped.  In any event get the money to them fast and get a receipt. If in the future you decide to let them debit your checking account, check with the bank the following day to make sure it's been done.   I hope you can straighten this out because I know how stressful it it for you.
