I always wondered how you can resolve the killing of friendly bateria from antibotics, as its a cycle of  killing and replacing. This article addresses that.

This is more evidence on the importance of probiotics in the diet, and not just for people on antibiotics.

I take both and I feel great. Not postRA great, just plain great.PS---I have often wondered if I would benefit from an anti-Candida diet, but it's a huge undertaking because it's very restrictive and you have to do it for a couple of years. From the article:
"The other day a young man with severe rheumatoid arthritis knocked at my door to collect money for a medically sponsored walkathon. When I told him that I do not give money for drug treatment as it can be overcome with natural therapies, he shouted: 'You are mad!' and left visibly upset."

Interesting indeed.

yes, suzanne, but read the entire article, he doesn't treat with antibotics.  He uses other  alternative therapies.....

I read it.  And I quoted 'natural therapies', which abx aren't.  It's interesting.
There's a school of thought that a lot of people diagnosed with arthritis actually have severe candida, but without obvious infections and rashes that are the usual clues for such an affliction.

I have to admit I just skimmed the whole article. Later I will read it more carefully.Okay, I read the article carefully.

First, it should be noted this is written by someone who is (or wants to be) one of those "health gurus", who is touting his own remedies.

While there is probably validity in some this, there's nothing new here. Drinking epsom salts, eating raw garlic, and coconut oil remedies have been touted since about forever to cure certain conditions. I do most of those things (I don't drink epsom salts) and I still have arthritis AND I did it before starting long term/low dose abx so that's not why it's not working. It also suggest urine therapy (yuck!), magnetic therapy, drinking iodine, and other highly dubious "drug free" remedies for health ailments.

No where does it mention oil of oregano, or black walnut husk, two known natural anti-fungals with long term track and safety records (I guess he doesn't sell those).

I'm suspicious of statements such as: "Soon afterwards he had a female patient with a stuffy nose, a throbbing headache, vaginitis and severe depression. To his amazement all her problems immediately cleared with Candida treatment."

Candida treatment usually takes about a year, so how could her symptoms clear up immediately?

Another thing that arouses suspicion is at the end of the article it directs you to a site where you can purchase "anti-candida books and products"---all by him, of course.

This article makes too many wild claims to be taken seriously, but it is food for thought, and as always, I applaud the promotion of more probiotics in dietWhy are you so quick to discredit Gimpy... you yourself do wild recipes and alternative.

I personally don't see how optimum health can be achieved when you have constant CANDIDA overgrowth, which you know comes from taking long term antibotics. Its like putting a bandaid on and adding more conditions.  As you know, I am not for or against your ongoing fight on AP even tho I tried AP in the early 90's with the blessings of my doctor and it did not work. I am just posting another view, that's all.  Some of this information could be helpful to others.

:)
I guess because I really research all my remedies and make sure I have credible information. I don't see that here. This is more like snake oil selling.

I'm not saying candida doesn't exist, or doesn't cause problems, but not enough is known about intestinal microbial bacteria to know you can't do abx and still not get candida. With certain precautions I believe you can, but that's na personal belief I can not validate with scientific proof. But neither can you or he prove you can't.

I wish if you were trying to discredit AP you could at least find credible information sources, instead of trying to scare people off with articles by quacks.

WHAT IS YOUR  PROBLEM?????In don't have a problem.

I am debating the validity of this article. I am outlining the reasons I think it's bunk. Instead of defending it's contents, you are attacking me personally.Really??  The only one attacking is you..maybe you should read your knee jerk responses again...
WHAT IS YOUR  PROBLEM?????
I'm still awaiting your reasoned response to why you think this "article" has medical credibility.Tis guys not even a doctor, or a chemist, or a biologist, or a naturopath. He has no credentials whatsoever.where in the above post do I say this article has medical credibility.  I thought the article was interesting and had food for thought, as you said.

I will not go round and round with your unyielding train of thought. I now know why most people don't post for fear of attacks from the cyber bullies.

Hope you feel better,
LuAnn
How is debating the validity of the article you posted cyber bullying? Or is the idea that everything you post above debate, so if anyone points out the many flaws of the article you posted it's a "personal attack".

It seems to me like you're the one bullying and making it personal. All I did was outline point by point why I would question the validity of what this person has written. Instead of defending the article and saying why you think we should consider what it says you try to turn it into a personal fight.

hmm..  let me see
"you discredit AP"....(your personal attack)why because I tried it and it didn't work?

I will read up on the rules of posting, I didn't know there are  guidelines and credentials needed for posting interestng articles...

How can someone be authority/spokesperson for AP therapy when you take AP, MTX & Plaqueril? Just wondering as that question has been asked before.

Lastly, there is no fight here just asking questions and posting information just like everyone else. Ah Free Speech, dont you just love it !!!! Unlike you, who monitors, censors and tells people to shut up.
My actual words were "I wish if you were trying to discredit AP you could at least find credible information sources, instead of trying to scare people off with articles by quacks. "

I say that because you claim to be impartial, but almost the only things you post on this forum are on the dangers of taking antibiotics.

I do not pretense to be an authority/spokesperson on anything other than my own opinions and knowlege, but that doesn't mean I can't differentiate snake oil from credible information. Either you can't or don't care to.

What is the problem here? You posted something. I posted a list of reasons why I don't give what you posted much credibility. I'm certainly open to hearing you defend the article. You obviously thought it was worthy information, or something, or why would you go to the trouble of posting it?

From my perspective, you're trying to pick a fight.

I rarely post and have posted alot on alternative and my own personal experiences.  My personal experience equals "the dangers of taking antibotics".

While some alternative is off the wall, there is plenty of information on natural remedies.
After making the slimey mushroom tea, others would consider to be wacko, but hey we have both tried it.

From my perspective you attack anyone who does not agree.
You know, I'm trying to gussy up here and just want to point out we can only have one 'throw down' a month.   GoGo, since I started mine first....

You know I adore you but I'm gonna side with LuAnn here.  She is very interested in Candida and natural methods and openly credits some of them with aiding her recovery.  While this guy is saying some off the wall stuff (ick!) he's also saying quite a lot of the same things you/I do.

I didn't take it as an anti-AP attack.  I took it as info for discussion.  LuAnn knows not everything is from antibiotics.  Heck, my neice got c. diff and wasn't anywhere need antibiotics.

If you guys mess up my romantic night...

Pip who needs a shower from all the scrubbing going on here today...
Sorry Pip,
I'm in hurricane mode, everything closed around here maybe I need to get off the computer LOL

PEACE :)
Sounds like it's time to get a generator and a big UPS for the computer!!! HaHa Jas, we have generator but electric came on 24 hrs later because we are lucky enough to be on Emergency Office of Management grid.

stemcell4me2008-09-16 19:33:17Hi Stemcell4me........you mentioned you are RA free & medicine free, can I ask how you did that.....thanks AnnI actually found the article very interesting. I can relate to so many things and a lot of what is written makes sense. Maybe I will try it, I havent got anything to lose as all normal RA meds have not worked

Rockin Annie,

I particapted in a clinical trial which performed Stem Cell Transplanation using my own stem cells.  I was accepted due to severity of my disease.  It was a rough journey but made it out the other side.

:) LuAnn

Pinny - cross reference a lot of his info for a more anti-inflammatory diet.  But I do believe he was right on the fungal implications.  I'm battling that and slowly working it down.  There is research on PubMed that that miribus (spelling) fungi will cause a positive RF.  Pretty amazing, isn't it.

Edited to add - LuAnn, are you OK with the hurricane?

Pip
Pip!2008-09-17 07:43:02Hey Pip,
We are very lucky and doing ok.  There is wide spread damage and the media won't go to regular programming, instead they keep flashing the horrible pictures.

We have a friend that is not allowed back to even check on his house at the coast.  Another one right down the road lost everything.  He is on a bay the the surge shifted the building and the water pipes broken. It's like a ghost town where partial services are available.  No school until further notice.

I have hunkered down many a hurricane but this one tops them all..  The winds were blowing 75 miles per hour with gusts up to 100 mph.  Well gotta go my rations are here LOL

LuAnn

PS Hope you evening went well ;)

My apologies if you've posted this before, but what was the outcome of the study?  Is this therapy being studied further or used for severe treatment-resistant cases?
LuAnn -

Went FAB!  I'm so glad he's home.  As you know, with school starting everything was up in the air and nothing was 'normal' and that's so hard on kids.  The baby had a nightmare when he was gone (cry!)  How is your baby handling the hurricane?  Is she scared?

Also, you have to add a signature line that has a link to your story!  You are an inspiration to so many people.  Even GoGo called you her hero.

Hugs,

Pip
Hey Jas,
I am being followed for five years before medical journals are written on outcome.  My three year check-up is this spring at Northwestern in Chicagoland.  The procedure has been done since 1997 and Dr. Burt has gone before Congress several times. Check out
www.stemcellresearch.org
I was #7 in the RA group.  He has had good success with AI diseases, MS, Chrons, Lupus, CIDP etc.  They only take the worst cases right now.

My journey is www.caringbridge.org insert site name - LUANN

Pip I know GoGo means well, we just got stuck in a cowpatty throwing contest. LOL I am throwing out the olive branch now GoGo :)
Wow Stemcell, that is great, and thank you for that info. The person who wrote this article isn't even a doctor, how you take it seriously? No matter if I agree or not, its an editorial. I wonder how the "Electronic Zapper & Magnetic Pulser" works.
