Somehow some beautiful velvet material ended up in the freeze.  Don't ask!  The person responsible has been....given a time out.

Anyway, it's expensive and I was going to use it to make some Christmas presents.  However, it now smells like chicken.

What can I do to get the smell out as it's still good - just chicken-y?  I can't wash it and dry cleaning would be cost prohibitive.  It's a LOT of material.

FEBREEZE, FEBREEZE, FEBREEZE.............I love that stuff and it really does remove odoursIt'll be a funny story if the fabric comes out ok.  Hope it works out!!  :)Fabreeze is now on the shopping list and we're going shopping today.  I'll let you know how it turned out.

And thanks -

The dryer is quicker and easier - it eliminates the stiffness that febreeze can leave and also forces air through all the fabric.  Besides - sun can really lighten some dark colors.

Pip if the smell doesn't come out you can always see if an area chicken coop has need of some luxurious curtains. One is genuine - the other is kind of that flat stuff that's really good to work with and in a deep red.  I'm going to go down to the garment center and try to pick up some 'fur' (not that cheap stuff, but luxe) and am going to make Santa Pants for my entire family.  We've been giving each other gift cards for the last few years and that gets kind of boring.

We had a pair of 'Santa Pants' when we were kids and we used to fight over it every Christmas.  They were about the size of a Christmas stocking but had two legs!  Ooooh - more stuff.  It was supposed to be my dad's but did we fight for it!  So, whoever found it first got to 'claim it'.

Apparently I perma-claimed it over a decade ago and it was in all my Xmas stuff.  So, I know they never forgot about it...

what a cool idea!!I think febreeze has a very strong scent. Another idea is to try linen water for ironing. It comes in a lot of nice scents and I think even Target carries it now. If not there, Linens n things carries it on the aisle with irons and hangers etc. You could spray that and still do the dryer thing...
What wonderfully thought out Christmas gifts! The chicken smell has to fade by then....
Put it in a bag with a new box of baking soda....the one that is made for refrigerators/freezers.........
