The Pain! The Pain The Pain!!!

It is now 5:17 Am EST, and I have had no sleep, I am on Pred 2x a day 10 mg each, MTX 2nd week, and aleve.
The Aleve has become worthless!
My right hand is swollen, at the wrist, there is a lump the size of a Large Grape on my wrist  below the thumb, I am getting really sharp pains on the top of my hands and up my wrist.
What I don't understand is why my doctor never rx'd anything for this onslaught of pain?
Is there nothing that I can take that will stop or at least dull the pain to the point that I can get some sleep?
I have taken 3 showers tonight, almost pure hot water, but still no relief in sight!
Damn I hate this RA disease!!!
slo_hand22008-09-21 02:25:12Right now we are dropping dialudid and short acting oxycodone in favor of methadone.

OMG I just read this fro another post ,dialudid's oxy, and or meth, for the pain OMG!
I wish I had read this thread

"Flare - pain management options"

before writing sorry guys!
I mod at some other sites  (electronics and cell phone) and always tel people to Read, Read, and yet the pain caused me to just complain before I read read, so sorry!

Sorry to hear that things a bit rough with you tonite.
Can only offer a "hang in there".
I'm sorry you're hurting so much, I understand how you feel.  Ask your RD to prescribe you a stronger pain med, like Vicodin.  My Rheumy will NOT give me anything for pain except Tramadol which is like taking sugar pills, that heartless bastard.  So my PCP took pity on me and he now prescribes me the Vicodin, and it DOES help the pain a great deal.Hope you get relief soon.........thanks guys! finally fell asleep at 6:00 am, but still in lots of pain but alas I guess it's my burden to bear!

Slo_hand2,

I don't think there is anyone here who hasn't had that same burden.  Don't feel bad that you didn't see the other post.  Gosh, if I had a dime for every post I made on a topic that had already been discussed, I'd be rich!

My RD didn't offer anything for pain until I asked.  You should ask for something.  Maybe your RD just doesn't know you are in so much pain.  There is absolutely no reason for you to have to suffer when something is available to help alleviate some of that pain.

Call, call, call!

Do not be sorry about writing this post. It is your pain and you could not sleep. I am allergic to MTX but I did take it for awhile. My Vicodine where not even working until I was on the MTX for two or three weeks.
I do not know how bad off you are. It sounds as if you are not very good. Sounds as if scince you appologised for writing this post that you may be acting brave and keeping to much to your self. Ask for some pain meds. Many people at first do not want them.
I am 45 and have been taking Vicodine for eleven months now. I used to take muscle relaxer and get shots in my spine and an occasional codine. Well I got worse.
I was so stiff and some days i could not move. I was allergic to NSAID'S. Allergic to DArvocet which did not work. Allergic to Tramadol. If i took a muscle relaxer i would just sleep.
I have chronic fatique in an extreem way. I only ever took Vicodine after surgery.
Well at first i did not take as much Vicodine as i do now. But i decided I liked walking around instead of crying all of the time. Some RD'S are not into giving out strong pain pills. They prefer you ask your general practitioner. So if you RD is one of those call your doc. In the short term you could try the eroom. They may give you a short term amount of pain pills . TEll them you will make an appiontment with your general practitioner soon.
Remember most pain pills have a build up effect. So you will get better help from them after the secound or third day. You will get some immediate relieve. But by the third day you should be able to cut back to just two or three a day. Instead of one every four to six hours.
