Thinking of a job change. | Arthritis Information

I have been thinking about a job change for some time now. The other day, the manager of hospice came to me and asked me if I wanted to come to work for him. So...I may become a hospice nurse. I have always loved hospice. This may get me out of the fast pace of the acute unit. Since I am off meds, it may be less stressful and may be better for the RA. IMO I don't know about the stress part if you get to know these patients and then they die well, there would be alot of that at a hospice. Still might be worth a shot!  haha joke!! Sorry, it was a bad one too! [QUOTE=lorster]I have been thinking about a job change for some time now. Wow - that sounds great!  I know a couple of women that work at the hospice associated with our hospital - they love their jobs.  It can be sad and stressful, sure.  But they say it's very rewarding to be able to help a patient through life's last challenge, and to help their loved ones accept the transition.  I hope it works out for you!!!
Lorster- when i worked at the funeral home we worked closely with our local hospice and the work they do there is fantastic.

If you started out knowing these patience were going to die and knew that you were helping to ease their suffering as they made that transion I think you could deal with the reality of it all a little better. It know doubt takes a really special person to do this job. It's a service that helps these patience as well as their families.

It sounds like a great opprotunity. Good Luck.
It does take a special kind of person to work with hospice patients. My dad had hospice when he was dying and they were so supportive and wonderful people.
If you can do it, go for it. People I know have done that kind of work and  love it.
I would think that it would be less physical stress as well as mental stress. Knowing you are helping people get through the one of the toughest time in their lives could be very rewarding.
We watch many people die where I work and we have a hospice room on the floor so I guess it would be just one step closer into the lives of some of these people. I have been a home health nurse in the past so at least I know part of what I'm getting into. Sounds like a wonderful job change. There has got to be an extra special halo in heaven for hospice nurses. I can't thank the ones enough who helped my husband during his final illness -- and they supported me, as well. Good luck with it, if you decide to do hospice. Know you will have the gratitude of a lot of families.
