Hi everyone.........I need help!.............I  don't know when to take my probiotics, I usually take all supplements when I remember, but I am starting AP tomorrow and I am trying to work out when to take what, there is a lot of contradiction on when to take probiotics before or after food.

I will start with my Minomycin first...... then 1 hour later take lemon/olive drink,........
then 2 hours later breakfast then take meds.........when will I fit in probiotic, from what I have read it is supposed to be taken two hours after Minomycin to re-propagate the gut...is this right? if so can I take it with breakfast & meds?

Thanks in advance for aadvice....Annie

My daughter eats yogurt mostly as her probiotic, so that is food!  And if she doesn't have yogurt, I mix a supplement in applesauce or even a bowl of cereal.

I do try to wait after she has her abx though.  She takes it at breakfast, then has yogurt at lunch.  Seems to work out fine.
Annie - I take my minocin with kefir.  But, I have found a powdered probiotic made by NOW.  I was advised long ago to try to buy as many supplements as possible in liquid or natural form, so you aren't processing the capsule to get to the supplement.  I use liquid calcium, liquid lethicin, and tumeric from the spice aisle.  GOOD LUCK - we are pulling for you - Cathy
I take an enteric-coated probiotic supplement ("Biobeads" by Natrol).  They are designed to release in the intestine instead of the stomach to avoid destruction by the stomach acids.  Since I started taking them a year ago, I have had almost no GI problems whatsoever.  Prior to that I had the same IBS crap (pardon the pun) that the past 4 generations of women in my family have all had.
Suzanne...Of course it is, silly me never thought of it that way, I will take it with my breakfast and other meds.

JSNM...The internet is a wonderful thing, did'nt know what kefir was, but do now. I have been told the same thing over and over, but just at the mo, I think popping pills is so much easier....when I read your last remark it was heartfelt and brought tears to my eyes, what great people you all are!

Jasmaine...I will have to do a lot of checking out different brands to get something similar to the brands you all mention, I thought there was only the one that is refridgerated, I will have to replace the bottle I have just bought because I left it out of the fridge for a couple of hours. That IBS is a shocker, my son has that problem, I know its not funny but he does tell some funny stories when we all get together & he is having a drink (or two).

Thanks again guys....Annie

My oldest boy has had some IBS troubles, but we started giving him yogurt and/or probiotic supplements (sometimes he won't eat the yogurt) and his problems have gone away as well.

Personally, I can't stand yogurt (or any dairy, really) so I stick with the supplements.

I have started taking the antibiotic in the afternoon and the probiotic just before dinner when it feels most comfortable.  You might see what feels most comfortable for you.

Good luck to you.  We're pulling for you, as JSNM says.I usually take my probiotic with my lunch or in the late afternoon. As long as it's spaced out by several hours from when you take your Minocin, it doesn't much matter if you take it with food or not.I'm with you Jasmine I don't like dairy at all.so will take supps.

Jan...Thanks for the support words. I am taking antibiotic am & pm so I took probiotic after breakfast, and like you say I will try it that way until it doesn't feel right. All trial & error.

Gale.... Are you still off the AP treatment I was following your posts on the AP thread. Hope you are doing ok.

I guess I have been reading so much in the last week here and on roadback forum everything was rinning into each other and  I didn't know what was best. Thanks again and will keep you all posted as I go....Annie
