My doctor just precribed Celebrex for me.  I'm a little nervous about taking it as there has been so much negative publicity about this class of drug.

Also I wonder if it's expensive.  I don't think there is a generic.

I'd appreciate hearing about anyone's experience with this drug.

Thanks.

Works great for me.  There are some things you need to do.  Talk with your doctor about something that will protect your stomach while taking Celebrex.  It can be harsh on your stomach and one of the side effects can be ulcers.  Do a search on the internet and read the sites especially the precautions and side effects.  It can be a good drug.  Have you taken any other nsaids?  LindyCelebrex is not available generically at the current time.  It's about /pill.  It did nothing for me; naproxen (about 5c/tablet; about 25c/day) is my NSAID of choice when I need one.  Your mileage may vary... but if you have no contraindications to naproxen or ibuprofen, you might talk to the doc about trying those first before jumping to the more expensive RX NSAIDs.   Celebrex did nothing for me, the swelling only got worse, I am on mobic now with the same results.I was on Celebrex about 10 years ago.  It worked well for me.  But meloxicam (generic Mobic) works just as well now.  I take aciphex with my mobic though.  You may want to ask about that? Thanks so much for your replies.  The prescription has already been called in and to be honest I think I'll be too uncomforfoetable with  the whole issue of this class of drug to take it.

Has anyone ever not taken a prescription?   Will the pharmacy get mad?

I sound like a kid but I worry about stuff like this.

Again thanks for youe replies.
Sorry for errors!Dotty, in 2001 I had a terrible W/C accident, which herniated a disc in my neck.  I was prescribed Celebrex and 10 days later I had my first and only vaginal hemmoragh bleed out.  I never took another one after that public catastrophy.  My gyno found no problem, no disease, no cyst, nothing which could have caused this, so it was decided it was the Celebrex.  Good luck.  [QUOTE=dotty]Thanks so much for your replies.  The prescription has already been called in and to be honest I think I'll be too uncomforfoetable with  the whole issue of this class of drug to take it. I've taken celebrex for 10 years now and have had no problems with it.
Good luck!
I was worried like you were. I researched this to no end. I have heard good and bad about it. I think everyone reacts differently to different meds. I took Diclofenic Sodium when I first found out i had RA. It gave me chest pains and scared me. I stopped it and started Celebrex after waiting and worrying if I should take it. I have been on Celebrex 400mg now for over 6 months. It works so well for me. My RA doctor said Celebrex is easier on the heart and worse on the stomache so just make sure to eat something before you take it and that they can prescribe some stuff for your stomache to coat it if you start feeling like it's bothering your stomache. Honestly, i'd say to give it a shot. You have to try different things to find the right one for you. What if this is what you've been needing? If it doesn't work, then you stop taking it and your dr. helps you find a different one. But , it is my most expensive RA prescription. I think I pay 50.00 per month for it!!(that's with my insurance) I think without insurance it's around 200.00!!!

Good luck!!
Celebrex is very effective, but I had a reaction to it, so I stopped.

I've taken quite a few different NSAIDS.  The only one that has worked for me is Celebrex. I've been taking it for 6 years. I haven't had any problems with it. I can tell though when I've missed a dose.  I had some concerns about Celebrex when the warnings came out.  Every drug you take has some side effect.  I discussed it with my rheumy.  He said the testing was done on a 800 mg a day dose. Which is higher than what is normally prescribed. I take is 400mg daily.  That if I had heart problems he would not prescribe it to me.  He felt it was a safe drug but that it was my choice.  I chose to stay on it because it helps me.  Address your concerns with your dr.
