My husband has been on Humira for about 4 months.  His blood count immediatly got better after the first month.

Now..his inflamtion blood test shows he's very inflamed.  He says his pain is not worse at all.  He says his pain is about the same for the past 3 months but not near as bad as the beginning before the Humira.

The Rhuemy said something about starting him on MTX with the Humira.  (He's only been taking the Humira injections once every 2 weeks)

Is it normal for you to take ONLY the Humira?  I know from reading many people take both with Folic Acid.

Will there be side affects?

Thanks for any information.
Hi there Marcy, actually a dmard like MXT, Plaq, Sulfasal is given along with the Humira.   The biologic almost always works better when taken with a dmard.

There may be side effects.  There are side effects with every medication - some worse than others.  I've been on MXT for several years and have had no side effects.  Only 2 sinus infections which cleared, no colds or flu.  My liver functions have all been normal except for once.  I stopped MXT for two weeks and the next set of labs were normal.  I have a little fatigue the day after MXT and that's it.  Lindy
Thank you so much, Lindy. :)  I have been afraid of the MTX because that's what our little grand daughter took when she had Leukemia.
Do you think the MTX helps prevent the possible side affect of Humira?  (like Lymphoma?)
I only ask this because our little g-daughter had the Leukemia?
Thanks. :)
It's not going to protect your husband from a side effect of Humira.  It works hand in hand with Humira to slow PsA.  Your husband's doctor should know about your gdaughter's leukemia.  The dose she took for L is a much higher dose than your husband will be taking.  LindyI just had my first shot of Humira yesterday in the doctor's office (I have a GREAT Rheumatologist - he actually listens to me  Hey Rizzy-  I was on humira for nearly 4 years with very few side effects and it worked great.  Humira didn't stop working until now.  Rheumy has me changing to Remicade- very expensive.  Anyway, feeling better is the main goal.  There are side effects to most meds we take but we have to weigh the benefits vs the pitfalls.  Great to hear that you are feeling better already!  :)I have to let everyone know that Humira is still working for me!  I am starting my 3rd year of it and I just lost health insurance.  I was on Cobra.  Abbott is supplying humira for a year!! We should applaud the drug companys that do help patients like me!!Congrats Nettie!  Good for you.  I sure wish humira was still worked for me!!! Nettie, this is wonderful news about being able to continue a drug that's working for you.  The drug companies do supply a hefty amount of drugs to people who don't have insurance.  I'm glad you applied and got help.  Lindy
