Well it's been 13 mos. since I had corrective surgery on my right hand and 7 mos. since surgery on my left.  I'm posting some pics to let everyone see how well it went.  There are still some things that could be done but for now, I'm happy with the way they are.

Before and today of right hand.

bingethinker2008-10-09 13:45:32What a HUGE difference!  Your doctor did a wonderful job!  Sounds like you're happy with the results!!  I'm so happy for you, Binge!!They look a lot better, and more functional too. A second lease on hands!wow what a change!! worth every penny you paid your hand surgeon!!  how long did it take to rehab post op

Rehab was around 7 weeks. It was a long process.how much finger mobility do you haveHi,
Thanks for posting the pictures.  This is a constant concern of mine.  I am going on the rituxan next week and one of the reasons is I am afraid of losing total function in my hands.  they are pretty bad like yours was and snap at the slightest movement even wasing my face, brushing my teeth is a huge issue.  So it is nice to see such an improvement in your hands, the before and after.  I used to have long slender fingers, not any more. but I have already asked about the surgery.  they said not until we get some of the inflammation under control.
Did you restore any function in the hands, like buttoning a shirt, opening a door, etc.?
thanks. take care.

That is amazing Binge, did your hands hurt before the surgery? They looked so painful. OMG, I can almost feel the pain that you must have endured.  Those new hands look fantastic.  What a wonderful surgeon you had.  I am so happy for you.

Huggin ya
WOW!  What a change and you must be delighted with the surgery.  LindyIn one year -- such an improvement!  How happy I am for you.  You must love your surgeons, I know I have a high regard for my knee and hip ortho surgeons, for the elimination of pain and restoring my ability to get around.

Surgeries and rehab can be tough, so congratulations for getting through it all.  Just curious, what state are you in, and what hospital did you have this done?

What can you do now with those lovely hands?  Will you be able to wrap Xmas presents this year?

Take care.

Amazing!  That is just so great!

I am so worried about my 15 year olds hands.  His other joints are doing really well with just MTX and NSAIDS but his hands are not looking good.

Thanks for posting those.  I am so happy for you!!!!

You are an inspiration for many on here.  Thank you!
So happy for you that your surgeries were such a success!  Thanks for showing us all what can be accomplished when you just don't give up!  You have offered encouragement to those of us with major hand damage.

It's just amazing to me that with all the medical "breakthroughs" that anyone's hands would become so twisted and painful. My grandmother had terrible RA and her hands and feet looked like your before pictures for most of her life. I'm very glad that medicine had something to offer you (surgery) but very sad at what the disease did to you. That is amazing. You always give me hope Binge. My hands are not what I would called "bad". They just have a crook here and there. I was not sure what they were going to do once the swelling went down but I am so relieved. How did you use them when they were so bad. When my hands are so swollen, I cannot even hold a pill or a cup. How long have you had RA? Binge, I get so much encouragement from you and your good attitude. You deserve this improvement and so much respect. I am curious - did Medicare pay for this? I think once my RA gets under control, I will be getting hip surgery. I am feeling so good and functional since the high dose of pred. I have hope again and you are an inspiration. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YAY, Binge!!! I am soooo happy that your hands have recovered from surgery and look so fantastic!

Thank you for sharing your pictures! I am sure you helped someone, somewhere with posting your terrific results from hand surgery.

Hope you are doing well!
