There are faults with the current Bush administration?  I was under the impression that everything was perfect in Republicanland Utopia what with trickle down to the poor, deregulation, let the private sector run government - there's a problem?
There are faults with the current Bush administration?  I was under the impression that everything was perfect in Republicanland Utopia what with trickle down to the poor, deregulation, let the private sector run government - there's a problem?
Oh for chrissakes.
I think she did the right thing. In my view she had every right as she is responsible for  overseeing the well being of her state. This man tazed (sp?) his own 10 year old son! He does not need to be in position of authority! By the way, the report states it was NOT the only reason for termination.  The investigator's report states Palin's efforts to get Wooten fired broke a state ethics law that bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action. "mmmmaverick" there's nothing unlawful about a governor replacing a cabinet member...Thanks Lindy!

It only took me forever to figure out how to get them to show up

I might have to leave them all year like the people who leave their xmas lights up (saves a lot of work)
Gee, have you guys notified the Alaskan State legislature about how their report is wrong? I'm sure it's all a misunderstanding of Alaskan State ethics law, of which you have intimate knowledge. They'd probably defer to your superior powers of deduction, if they only knew of their mistake. Heck, they'd probably thank you, yo betcha!
Alaska didn't get it wrong, but I guess the media did?  Our paper ran this today (page 2, of course):

"A front page item....incorrectly stated stated that a legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner."

It goes on to explain (as I followed it) that whatever she did was legal,  but maybe not ethical.  My personal definition of politics LOL.
Suzanne, it's hard to get the story straight. Like, she was found within her rights to fire the public safety commissioner because she allowed to fire that position without cause but her actions before that, putting pressure on him to fire the trooper, were found to be in violation of state ethics laws. I'm pretty sure that's the story. What I find freaky every time is how her husband was given free reign in her office, and attended closed door meetings that were not open to the public.Well,

If it had been a democrat that had fired someone there would have been no call for an investigation. Does anyone hear the democrats screaming for an investigation into the fannie may freddie mac fiasco? The dems screamed for the head of Larry Craig for alledgedly playing footsies with an undercover at a rest area and yet Barney Franks is caught with both hands in the pants of freddie mac and no one calls for an investigation.

Gimpy, shouldn't you be trying to stop the clubbing of seals in Canada or something?

Actually, the investigation was started before Palin got on the Vice Presidential ticket. Also the fact that Larry Craig is so rabidly anti-gay was what made his little footsie pick-up gmae scandalous. It's the hypocracy, not the fact that he's gay.
From: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/12/palin_talks_to_alaska_reporter.html

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin this weekend disregarded an ethics investigator's finding that she had abused her executive power as Alaska's governor and instead embraced a second finding in the report to say that she had been cleared of wrongfully firing her state public safety commissioner.

Investigator Stephen Branchflower's 263-page report said Palin breached state ethic laws when she, her husband and members of her administration tried to get the ex-husband of her younger sister fired as an Alaska state trooper. A second finding determined that Palin was within her right to fire public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, even if she did so in part because he didn't bow to pressure to sack the trooper.

And:

Even after Wooten had been suspended without pay for five days, the Palin family continued to work to get Wooten fired, Branchflower said. The ethics report determined that the governor' actions and failure to rein in her husband amounted to an abuse of power because she was pursuing a personal vendetta rather than serve the public interest.

So the actual part of the report citing wrongdoing says:

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.
and what about the poor baby seals gimp? your head far up into your bag of chips with Pip?
GoGo - I'm a bit worried about Todd Palin's running around unchecked behind the scenes too.  We know all elected spouses do - remember the uproar when Barbara Bush switched from something 'feminist' to 'reading' as her cause because of complaints that she was overstepping her bounds.  This seems like something similar but more so, KWIM?

http://www.latimes.com/news/la-na-todd12-2008oct12,0,4761988.storyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmYqRfp6-x8My point was that Barney Franks had his hands in Frddies pants and nobody cares. Two years ago, back when freddie and fannie were caught cooking the books, Barney said, don't worry about it, nothing to worry about. Both the Bush admin and McCain brought the worries concerning freddie and fannie and the people at the helm ignored all warnings as they continued to be the top recipients of mmonies from freddie and fannie. So Gimpy, which is worse, footsies in a rest area or a complete rape of the american taxpayers and even those that don't pay taxes? You don't have to answer if you are too busy saving the seals.

Lev, I've explained a strawman argument to you on several occassions and the above is a classic example. And Gimpy,

You are a classic example of a person with the dreaded ostritch disease. Doesn't "your" country have lots of problems? It seems that someone like you with such great marijauna induced intelligence, and a conosewer of big words should be at service to "your" country helping to solve "your" problems. It seems to me that "your" country would actually be searching for a person of such great intelligence as you. Have you offered your services to "your" country? You could probably have "your" countries problems fixed by the time our new president takes office and then you will probably be asked by the new U.S. admin to come help solve our problems.
