Thought for the day on the politics threads | Arthritis Information

Politics plays a big part on this board and thats fine as its good to discuss other issues. It has also resulted to a lot of name calling too which isnt so good  and it has caused a lot of bad feeling but no matter what anyone has said it still carries on. The only thing I cant understand is why is the need to bring RA into it.....The normal quote if someone has a different opinion or rants at another member is " so and so is off their meds....or so and so is flaring at the moment........Rheumatoid arthritis might make us angry at ourselves for the change in our lives but it doesnt give us the excuse to be rude, to stalk another member or to be less tolerant of someone elses beliefs in their meds. So to any newbies who may read this, RA doesnt make you nasty and ill mannered, it doesnt make you  run other memebers off the board either.Lisa, I was rude ONCE (ok, in 1 thread), because I was in a very pissy mood due to flaring bad. I realized I was rude almost immediately and I apologized, BUT I made it clear that while I wish I could take the wording and rudeness back, the point I was trying to make was valid and I stood by it. You're correct on a couple of things, RA doesn't make me see things the way I do. It doesn't make anyone intolerant. BUT, constant pain does tend to make one a bit testy.... For the record, I don't stalk, or try to run anyone out of anything. I only respond now because part of what you allude to applies to me...

Be well...
I wasnt picking out any one person Jose, it was just something I realised. RA was getting the blame for the general feel of some of the threads........We can blame it for our pain and discomfort, our inability to feel feel human somedays but one thing......we are all in the same boat and thats why we come here.........sure we can disagree about politics, we can disagree about meds ( natural methods, AP or doctors prescriptions), we can disagree about lots of stuff, but one thing we cant disagree on is this disease is a bad one , it can cause lots of pain, swelling ,discomfort, operations, loss of life, loss of jobs, money worries etc so we come here to support each other when we need the people who know how we feel. Its just not a cause for being mean and nasty to people, bullying or rudeness.Um, Pin, AP is doctor's prescriptions.

edited for spellingGimpy-a-gogo2008-10-14 08:18:57I know ...........realised that after i worded it wrong.........sorry i meant other doctors prescriptions!!Well,

I think it's good the way it is. If it were all sweetness then there would be no place for the members that consider themselves the "peace angels".  They would have to find another forum to shed their peace wisdom. Even the "peace angels" have a place here at this wonderful forum. They don't have to look for a new home. Isn't forum freedom wonderful?

Its not about being sweet or angelic, its about not blaming RA for the lack of niceness LEV.

I LOVE READING WHAT THE "PEACE ANGELS" HAVE TO SAY. IT JUST PROVES I'M SUPERIOR TO THEM

I CAN HEAR THE PANTIES BUNCHING UP NOW!!!!

Good post, pin.  Very good.Snow Owl-

Great picture!!!!  Wow.

Also, I love a spirited discussion. I wish people didn't have to get personal or take it personal... I love this boards. I know no one other than here that has RA. This forums are invaluable to me. Even if it is just so I know I am not alone in my RA battle....
My feeling is that it is always good to be able to vent how you feel.  But I doubt many minds will be changed in this forum.  For those who are so passionate but they can't help but start thread after thread, please just call up your county republican or democratic (or green or whatever) office and volunteer to make phone calls to get out the vote.  But the energy is mostly wasted here, I would think.

But I guess people like to debate for the sake of debate.  I enjoy debate but I get so irritated by factual inaccuracy and conclusory arguments that I can't even make myself click on the threads.  Just ask my husband.  He likes to discuss issues but I can't bear it unless he is truly informed about it.  I drive him crazy in that respect.  To each their own I guess...
I am starting to think there are a couple people on here that just like to see there names  This way, I have my say and don't have to take the crap from the extreme liberal clique in this forum.  I am sick and tired of the politics and don't read those posts. I'm tired of seeing the commercials and the signs everywhere. I will be glad when it's over. I watched the debates and I know who I will vote for and nothing or no one will change my mind. Just my feelings on the subject! Take it or leave it! [QUOTE=José] Amen SnowOwl...

Wow, that's wild. I know quite a few other people with RA and if you count other related, or what I believe to be related, autoimmune diseases it would be in the double digits.

(It's really personal. My friend's Mom who I've known for over 20 years is suffering kidney failure and scores of other ailments that her doctor's think are from taking years of RA drugs. I wish people understood what a serious disease this is.)

Even though I know people in day to day life with problems like mine, I still get a lot of valuable information from support boards.

pin - great post and great wisdom - the personal attacks, stalking, name calling, etc. has no place in civil conversation.  I too have been flabbergasted at people using RA as an excuse to be nasty to another.

your favorite words.... MORONS, whackos, shut up, idiot  et al

Another retread of 23 posts for my personal ignore listI'm surprised it took 23.alter egos providing back to back coverage
