OT - Concerns about this election | Arthritis Information

Two issues that concern me quite a bit:

1.  Fraudulent voter registrations which are leading to fraudulent voting practices. There has been evidence of fraudulently registered voters voting as absentee ballots. And this is hardly ever discussed on the news! People better wise up to what a serious problem this is for this election. There's going to be total chaos come Nov 4th when they try to sort things out. And people better pay attention to which candidate is expressing concern about this, and which is not.

2. Some people are voting based upon their personal preference, rather than on the issues themselves. As evidenced by these interviews. Warning: There is graphic language on this audio recording. And some people may be offended, but try to understand that the real message here is that some voters really are not paying attention to the issues.

Since the voter registartions are both Dem and Rep, it should even out. I know if I were at at poll and "Mickey Mouse" showed up I would hand him a ballot. That's nice.o/c about USA, nothing to do in canada eh?Gimpy,

You give pot smokers a bad name. It isn't an even steven fraud, republican and democrat. The republicans do not have an organization like acorn. I believe you would give a registration to Mickey Mouse. You said you would give marijauna to children to expand there intelect. Have you done any good in stopping the clubbing of the seals in your country of canada. How's that going? I mean have you at leastgiven up your club?

The Obama campaign paid 2,598 to Citizens Services Inc., which contracts with ACORN, to canvass voters in large states like Texas during the primary.

Democrat Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner saw nothing wrong with fraudulant votes because they are in favor of the democrats. Fortunately the courts ruled against her saying that what she was trying to pull was a joke.  I say it was criminal.

One more thing. Where is Obamas stand against voter fraud and ACORN?From the Huffington Post:

ACORN: McCain And GOP Used To Be Supporters

On Monday, the Democratic-leaning group ACORN, which has been painted as a criminal enterprise by the GOP for its voter registration and housing policy efforts, pushed back against its critics by producing a photo of John McCain attending its March 2006 rally.

It was a reminder that, for all their electoral histrionics, Republicans have aligned themselves with ACORN in the past.

Indeed, in addition to the McCain photo, there is a host of examples of prominent McCain surrogates attending ACORN events, signing ACORN legislation, or complimenting the group's efforts.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, for example, partnered with ACORN in March 2008 for a "Homeownership Promotes The Economy" taskforce. More recently, Crist declared that -- contrary to GOP outrage -- he was not upset with the group's voter registration efforts in his state. The New York Times reported that ACORN supported a law signed by Governor Crist, which "changed the rules last year to restore the voting rights of about 112,000 former convicts."

In July 2005, meanwhile, another Republican governor, Rick Perry of Texas, signed ACORN's Lending Law Reform Bill that changed the state's homelending practices.

In July 2008, California Governor and McCain supporter Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill that ACORN helped draft aimed at California homeowners facing foreclosure.

In June 2007, Minnesota Governor and McCain VP short-lister Tim Pawlenty signed a similar bill -- drafted by ACORN -- that helped homeowners get fairer deals on their mortgages.

"The legislation was drafted according to recommendations made by a predatory lending study group established by Swanson prior to the legislative session," wrote the Northwestern Financial Review. "The study group contained representatives from the banking industry and the mortgage brokers association, as well as consumer advocates from organizations such as Illegal Aid and ACORN."

As Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney signed an anti-predatory lending bill that ACORN supported. In February 2006, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman met with the ACORN Katrina Survivors Association. And back in July 2005, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg actually got a kiss from ACORN's state leader, according to the publication City Limits, during an announcement that the city would protect or create 65,000 affordable units in a new housing proposal. Bloomberg, it should be noted, has not endorsed a candidate.

It would be, in a normal political context, highly unremarkable that Republican and Independent officials would praise and work with a group as large and influential as ACORN. But in recent days, it seems, Republicans and the McCain campaign are keen on painting the community-organizing group as something inherently corrupt. The primary target of complaint has been the organization's voter registration efforts, which have led to numerous non-existent individuals being put on the rolls.

Recently the McCain campaign went farther, releasing a web advertisement that linked Barack Obama to ACORN, and blamed the group for helping instigate the crisis in the nation's housing market -- itself a contributor to the financial mess.

ACORN "bull[ied] banks" and engaged in "intimidation tactics," says the ad. "ACORN forced banks to issue risky home loans. The same types of loans that caused the financial crisis we're in today."

ACORN has insisted, in the wake of these and other attacks, that it has been firm in its advocacy for regulations to "protect homeowners from predatory lenders." And certainly, they have a handful of prominent Republican officials who, at one point in time, agreed.

OK..  but did these people give acorn 0,000 dollars to "get out the vote"  and then hide it????????    Sorry, but this REALLY bothers me...

Obama's Campaign Paid Over 0,000 To ACORN Subsidiary For Get-Out-The-Vote Efforts, But "Mistakenly Misrepresented" Their Work To The FEC:
Obama's Campaign "Paid More Than 0,000" To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally "Misrepresented" The Group's Work To The FEC. "U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign paid more than 0,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat's campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports. An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. -- a subsidiary of ACORN -- worked in 'get-out-the-vote' projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary." (David M. Brown, "Obama To Amend Report On 0,000 In Spending," Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 8/22/08)
kIm; I also think there is going to be a mess on election day. I think it's highly unlikely that there will be a winner on November 4th. I'll be very surprised if everything goes off without a hitch. Lovie2008-10-15 17:30:54I don't think McCain was a lawyer for Acorn , but BHO wasOhio - home to my favorite two Bush supporters, Tom and Bernadette Noe - of course Ohio is the most corrupt state in the union.  People think the Bush family is from CT, wrong.  ohio-where the guys who broke the laws went to jail and the politicians who were involved were voted out of office.  Ohio isn't even close to be the "most" corrupt state in the country...take a look at Illinois, Lousiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvaia, your own Florida.  No state is exempt from problems in the political arenaI certainly hope people DO THE RIGHT THING and vote honestly.  We will see.Well, it seems like someone registered to vote using our phone number.  I had two calls yesterday for the same person.  I thought the first one was just a misdial, but later a different organization called asking for the same person.  Both were about early voting.

We've had this number almost twenty years.  Weird, isn't it?
I get phone calls all the time to pick up my child from day care, I don't have a child. They never leave a number so I can't correct it. Once people have a wrong number it keeps happening.

Its a shame the Republicans didn't worrry about voter fraud in Ohio and Florida in 2000. The Dems have been trying to make better laws since 2000. To bad the Repros are so late in the game. guess it just depends on who is going to win. [QUOTE=Bird Girrl]I get phone calls all the time to pick up my child from day care, I don't have a child. That's so sad that the day care and the parents haven't corrected the child's records!  What if there is an emergency?   What kind of childcare facility is it, I wonder, that just leaves a message on a wrong number?  Poor child.  You should "*69" the next time that happens and get that straight.  Unbelievable!
I've been hearing alot about voter fraud.  This really undermines our system.  Hope it is caught and stopped. Here's an article: www.boston.com/news/local/connecticut/articles/2008/10/19/acorn_controversy_voter_fraud_or-mudslinging/ Try again

And again www.boston.com/news/local/connecticut/articles/2008/10/19/acorn_controversy_voter_fraud_or_mudslinging/ Most people don't know that Obama managed to get into the Senate because of mud-slinging. Obama was running against a guy named Jack Ryan who clearly had it all over Obama. Someone got a lawyer to convince a judge in California to open up Ryan's divorce papers which were otherwise sealed, and dished out some mostly minor dirt so Ryan withdrew. The Republicans failed to back a late-starting Alan Keyes who was just a bit too conservative for some folks and Obama got into office. Without the dirt on Ryan, and the scandal surrounding his predecessor: Carol Moseley-Braun, Obama wouldn't even be considered for anything.

Keep in mind that Chicago has the nation's highest sales tax, a murder rate higher than Iraq, the city, county and state is awash in serious financial trouble. Chicago schools are some of the worst. All of the politicians running the show are Democrats. The current governor and his wife, Obama's friends,  are likely to be wearing silver bracelets in the near future.

And we are expecting Obama to do what? I don't think so.
