How can I find drs in other states? | Arthritis Information

Share

We may be relocating to another state and I am wondering how I am ever going to find good drs and how I can avoid waiting months for a new patient appointment. I have 5 drs with all the specialists, and a lot of medical problems. Hardly a week goes by without at least one appointment. Anyone have any advice on this? It may happen very quickly.

I am already stressing over moving 14 hours from my extended family and kids and am worried what this may do to me healthwise and then not having adequate medical care.

aww Laker... I totally get this.. I may be moving half way across the country 1400 miles away from my family!!
Where, may I ask, will you be going?
We're potentially headed to Dallas area.

MY RD said that he would assist me in getting set up w/ new RDs and other specialists.

Would your dr do that for you?  It's got to be one of the most difficult things to plan our medical care long distance

I'll be watching to see what ideas come this way.

Good luck to you!!!
We are possibly going to Connecticut. If it happens it could be by Thanksgiving. I am feeling a bit stunned, although it is great news as my husband has only been out of work a couple of weeks. We have lived here our entire lives and our kids will be staying. I am not sure my rd is going to be that much help, but that is a good place to start.

We have relatives that moved to Texas and they love it.  Good luck!
Go here to the patients and public section.  It should give you an idea of rheumatologists in the area that you are moving to.

By the way this is the site for the american college of rheumatology.  Good luck, finding a new doc is a tough thing.

Sorry for the upheaval Laker and I hope you don't stress too much about it.  I know, easier said than done but...

If you want an AP doc, one of the best in the country is in that neck of the woods.  PM me if interested.  And good luck with ANY rheumy you choose.

For a RA, you might consider contacting the Arthritis Foundation office in the area you are moving to.  They should have a list of rheumatologists, and perhaps could recommend one.  (My RA doc works with the local arthritis foundation office and he has recommended other docs I've needed to see)

Good luck relocating, its a big job, and a big change, but a new beginning can be fun.  Best of luck.

It depends on where you are moving to. Some doctors will see you right away. But then you may not like the doctor. See a GP right away. Tell them you need fast referals. Good Luck!Laker, I live in Connecticut and love my rheumy.  I don't know what area of the state you are possibly moving to but I would be happy to help you out if I can.  Also, Connecticut Magazine has an annual "TOP DOC's" issue that you can probably access on-line, where you can see which doctors, specialists, and hospitals that patients have rated the best.  Connecticut has excellent physicians, two teaching hospitals - University of Connecticut's UCONN Medical Center in Farmington, CT and Yale New Haven Hospital which is a part of Yale University.  And don't forget that in CT you are only a train ride away from Boston and New York City.Thank you for all the great advice.  I am noting all the resources you suggested so I can make use of them if this happens. It has been such a battle the last couple years just to get my health sort of under control that I dreaded the idea of finding new drs and starting over. I feel a bit better about this now after reading your replies. I guess I will survive after all! LOL!
