Flu-Like Symptoms | Arthritis Information
Lately I have been getting cold or flu-like symptoms on average of one day a week. When I feel like this I usually come home from work, eat dinner, and go straight to bed to get extra rest. The next morning I will be fine. This weeks so far I've had 2 days like this. Has anyone had this issue? I'm not sure if it is related to my RA or if I am battling something else!
It might be the change of seasons. I've noticed I get exhausted in the spring and then later in the fall and when talking to others (non-RA) people they've all said they felt similar. If it goes on to develop into a cold or whatnot...ignore the above. :-)
Pip
I also have days like that. Maybe a couple times a month that I
just feel crappy and just do alot of resting and the next day I am
fine again.
( I occasionally have flu-like symptoms...usually advil or aleve works pretty well in relieving the symptoms)
An excerpt from the Arthritis Foundation:
Other common physical symptoms include:
- Stiffness, particularly in the morning and when sitting for long periods of time. Typically, the longer the morning stiffness lasts, the more active your disease is.
- Flu-like symptoms, including a low-grade fever
- Pain associated with prolonged sitting
- The occurrence of flares of disease activity followed by remission or disease inactivity
- Rheumatoid nodules, or lumps of tissue under the skin, appear in about one-fifth of people with RA. Typically found on the elbows, they can indicate more severe disease activity.
- Loss of appetite, depression, weight loss, anemia, cold and/or sweaty hands and feet
- Involvement of the glands around the eyes and mouth, causing decreased production of tears and saliva (Sjögren’s syndrome)
ypiper,
What RA med are you on? When I was on Arava I had flu like symptoms. Went to family Doc several times, finally he told me to call my Rheumy and here it was the Arava causing it. But on another note, I am only on Lodine and Prednisone now and when I am tired I get flu like symptoms, which lately is pretty frequently. Makes it really hard to make it through the day.
When I was first dx, I had flu like symptoms alot. I think it's related to the ra itself. I also ran low grade fevers all the time. How long has it been since you were dx?
Every now and again I get it still.
I was diagnosed 5 years ago (age 30). I have been on Enbrel for over a year, which has been working well, however, with these symptoms, I have been concerned if I should take it or not because of the whole infection thing. My Dr. told me to stop taking it if I get any type of infection, sinus, cold/flu, cut, etc.
Ypiper. I feel feverish, general malaise and fatigue almost every day towards the end of the day. I have a very demanding job and I feel like that towards the end of long days or when I am flaring... Hope you find some relief soon....
Be well...
