I'm headed towards Obama house. Think we were seperated at birth? Huh? LBeginning to think so!  So, still debating sending to by arch-conservative sister.  Do you think she'll be calm by Xmas? Probably not!  Maybe by July 4th.  Don't geek her, she's probably dealing with campaign stress related syndrome (CSRS) Another new health issue to deal with and can be cured with the right kind of humor.  LNo attacks on our soil in 7 years.  SOOOO glad of that.Yes, that's a great thing.  But I always thought the Reps would close our borders if they really wanted to lessen that possibility instead of leaving it open so cheap labor (that the reps refuse to fine employers for hiring) and terroritsts can get in.  Cheap labor is a much more important issue to Reps than domestic safety - except in election years.  Why is that? I think it has more to do with the success of the war than the border.  THe guys who hijacked the planes and drove them into buildings came here through the East Coast.  They didn't come over the border with Mexico.They trained in Mexico.  And some were in Canada too.  But we never talk about closing the Canadian border either?  Why is that?  Those pesky Canadians always sneak over the border for our jobs.  I saw a Michael Moore piece on that - Hilarious. I read they trained RIGHT HERE IN THE U.S!  I think that is correct.No, they were training all over the world.  And the point is, they are training all over the world right now and we still haven't closed our borders.  It's much easier to bemoan the damage after the fact than to stop employers from hiring cheap labor.  The last immigration reform law that was up before congress was killed by the Reps (we expect the Dems to oppose it) because they said, to get rid of undocumented aliens, we needed to take away their reason for coming here, jobs, and there was a part of the bill that included fines for employers who hire and do not verify the ID numbers of illegals.  THAT killed the bill.  Because the employers said it was an undue hardship on their business.  So as far as I can see, first up for Reps is business and second up is national security. Pip!2008-10-18 09:43:17If I have time, I'll try and find the report because I was shocked that they had trained here.  They had to train here to learn how to fly our planes.  If I remember correctly they were trained in Florida.  I may have to look for the information.  LindyAnd in Germany.  The point is they can get in any time because we didn't close our north or south borders.  THe war on terror has to be fought in many ways.  It is a new and complex war.Pip, I don't think it will matter if we close our borders.  How are we going to close that many miles of border?  It's not feasible.  We have our own home-grown terrorists also to deal with.  I certainly don't have the answers and I'm not sure there are ways of making ourselves free from terrorist attacks.  We can make it more difficult but I think the danger is always with us no matter what our govt. does to protect us.  Terrorism is worldwide. We can't live our lives in fear only in awareness.  Lindy 

There were plans to build a wall across the Mexican border because of some of the terrorist training going on there.  The Dems called it racist as nobody was trying to get keep the Canadians out. 

I am not advocating the wall - I just think it's interesting that from what I've seen, business trumps national security - unless there is an attack.
