For the folks on Enbrel | Arthritis Information

Which do you take?  The sureclick method, prefilled syringes, or the vials where you have to mix it yourself?  I took it about two years ago and did the vials and really liked that method.  Yesterday, my rheumatologist decided to give Enbrel a try again to see if it would work for me again.  (when I was on it before I developed this habit of "forgetting" to take it)

Has anyone else gone off Enbrel only to go back to it sometime later and had good luck with it?  I know the one time I was off of it for a month due to a terrible sinus infection I resumed it and it was like I never stopped it after a week or so.

I use the sureclick method and I love it.  It really doesn't hurt and it's ready when you are.  I set my phone alarm for the same time every week so I don't forget to take it, otherwise I would most certainly forget.I do the prefilled syringes and do it on Fridays I think I forgot it only
once. I was on it for a few years when last Sept mt Rd wanted me to try
Humira , and that did not work as well .
I have been back with Enbrel for over 8 months now and it is not working
as well as before but alot better than Humira.
Good luck to you.
I've been on enbrel for about 15 months now and have used sureclick from the beginning.  It's not too bad, just have to get used to the sting, but it's short-lived.   Hope the 2nd time around works well for you.

I used enbrel when you had to prepare it and load the syringe.  When it became available premixed and preloaded, I happily switched, much more convenient.  Some say there's a bit of a sting with the premixed syringes, cuz I think cuz of a preservative, but its not bad in my opinion.

My RA doc had said if tried another biologic then came back to enbrel it "should" still be effective, but so far I am satisfied w/enbrel and mtx and haven't changed.  I was off it for a couple of months when I had surgery and when I resumed taking it, it still was effective.  I take 2 25mg shots of enbrel a week rather than one 50mg shot a week.

Good luck, hope the enbrel manages the RA, take care.

I must be the only person that likes to prepare and load the Enbrel myself.  I did try the preloaded syringes too and thought they burned like heck so I went back to the powdered vial method.  The sureclick didn't hurt at all though so I may stick with it.
I hope it works too, but if not the doc says that we can try Remicade again at a higher dose or maybe Orencia or Rituxan.  Either way, I'm not out of options yet so there is still some hope.

On the upside, I had mentioned on here that I had been on 70mg of pred a day and was miserable from the weight gain and moon face.  I've managed to make it to 45mg.  I'm stiff,  but my ESR is 2!!!!  I think there is something to this fish oil that everyone speaks so highly of.  Even my blood pressure is down a bit since starting it last month.  I think I can live with some stiffness and pain until the MTX and Enbrel kick back in.

thanks all
Bob H.
Bob,

Letting a prefilled enbrel syringe sit out for about a half hour after taking it out of the frig, helps minimize that burning sensation.  You could doublecheck this w/a nurse with the enbrel enliven program (i think thats what its called) about the length of time you can let it sit out.

For me, it was humira that really burned --- oowwwwwie.

I have been taking enbrel for 10 months now and it really has helped me. I had to go off it a month ago due to a boil that wouldn't heal and I was put on antibiotics. I use the sure click and inject in my tummy and it doesn't hurt at all. I go back to dr on Tuesday to hopefully get the go ahead to do the enbrel again. I hope it kicks right in again. I felt better on my very first injection! I had no morning stiffness and my energy level was awesome. I still have some pain but that is due to a bone spur and damage. I was also dx with tarsal tunnel syndrome and had a limp for a long time. NOW....no limp!!
I wish you the best, Bob
take care!
You know Joie, the Humira really hurt me too.  I did let the enbrel sit out to warm up.  As a matter of fact, I would take it out and take it with me to class and inject in the bathroom before going in.  It was a good 45 minute drive for me to school and then the time it would take to find a parking space and walk to the building so that was plenty warm up time.  I must be a big wimp or something.  I think it was from the smalller bore needles they used and the thickness of the medication.6  months of enbrel here.. and I use the prefilled syringe... and I take it out of the fridge and set it across my hot cup of tea for about 10 minutes.. before injecting..  warmer burns less...I did Humira and thought their preloaded pen was easier to use, but now use the sureclick Enbrel.  It burns more than the Humira but not too bad.  I take mine out for 20  min and it's fine.  Hope it works for you
