OT: Doggie stuff.... | Arthritis Information

Our precious old pooch Nelson, who has shared 13 orbits of the sun with us, has a nasty tumour and I am feeling so very sad and lost about now.   As  a large dog (he is 55 kgs) getting to be 13 yrs old, 80+ in human terms, is a great achievement but imagining a life without our special mate is incomprehensible. And we ( hubster and me) have avoided talking about it mostly.

Today we spent time just spoiling him with a nearly empty honey pot ( he looks like a bear with nose in that!) a walk to his favourite Park and some dried pigs ears. Dalai the baby rescue pooch is feeling left out so he will get some special time tomorrow.

Nelson and I now share an arthritis problem and I have had him on meds for a year now. I fought to NOT put him on meds and tried the glucosamine mix instead but it never worked. Antiflamms have, so Im grateful that he has relatively good movement for an old heavyweight.

I am so glad it is mid spring, things seem to be a little easier to accept when the sun shines and warms your face. Our Wuff warms my soul and I dont know what life will be without him.
This will likely be his last summer and there will be nearly full honeypots for our old boy! And all the treats he loves like a cup of tea and toast for breakfast and warm milk at dinnertime. Chicken necks will get thrown in that mix too!

Here he is.....a photo from last summer at the beach. His eyes are closed here but normally you see big brown ones full of love and life.
Sorry to rant...I am just feeling so damned sad that we are losing our best friend.

Aww, he is precious and I'm so sorry he is not well.  I know exactly how you feel, my sweetie dachshund is like my 2nd child and I will be lost without him when his time comes...he is 10 now.  I hope everything goes well for you and just know that there are many people out in the world that understand how you feel and sympathize with your situation

Here is my sweetie:

I'm sorry to hear about your precious Nelson.  Enjoy every waking moment with him and make the most of your time together.  Pet are a wonderful companion and they understand us so much.  My thoughts are with you.

I think it takes having a special pet in your life to truely understand how hevy your heart is right now. I'm so sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I'm sorry to hear about your Nelson.  Spend every available moment you can with him and know that he loves the life you have given him.  Hiking_galSorry about Nelson.  He looks like a great dog!!!I completely understand where you are about this  ...

He's a Great Pyrenees?  He's just a beautiful boy.
Thanks everyone...he sure is precious!

Audrey your pooch is such a cutie...love the cushion too!

Babs, Nelson is a Pastore Abruzzese or Maremma from Italy. I first got to know the breed whilst living there. Ferocious guard dogs which totally belies their cuddly bear look. Kids just want to hug them but thats not wise until they have gotten to know you so you have to be vigilant. Best mate we have ever had. Would be nice if he tolerated the cat tho'!!

Cheer...Lyn
that's interesting.....  I'll have to read up on that breed.  Never heard of them before.

he is a pretty boy!!
