OT ?? about Rheumatoid Arthritis | Arthritis Information

Hi, I have  moderate to severe RA.

I know this is a political forum, but I figured I could get an answer about an RA protocol here.

Is it true that if you stop taking Remicade and go on to Orencia or Rituxan that you can NOT go back to Remicade or any TNF  blocker? I am asking because I am worried that my Remicade is beginning to poop out on me.

Thanks.

Hi Kathy,  Im not sure what the procedure is in the USA , here if we fail one tnf thats it they wont give you any more , its a new law, but i think its only for the UK.
I hope you get something sorted, its horrible when the meds stop doing their job or have adverse affects
Hugs
You're funny!!!

I have no idea about that... Hopefully someone will chime in w/ some information..

but I had to say thanks for the giggle!
I don't think that's true Kathy.  I know several people who failed on Orencia and went back to using Enbrel and Humira.  I have been up the ladder and I am currently on Orencia.  My dr. said you can go back if need be.Hi Kathy and thanks for my morning smile

This has always been a concern for me and I've talked with my RD and he said that you can go back to one of the other biologics.  I was on Remicade and I wasn't able to achieve clinical remission on it and that has always been my goal.  I stopped Remicade and went back to Humira, upped MXT, and added Sulfasalazine and have been in clinical remission for almost a year.  I figured if Humira stops working I'll go to Orencia.  Good luck.  Lindy

Yes you can go back on remicade. I was on it about 2 years ago. after being on it for about 1 year. I had a reaction. I went on to orencia then rituxan. Neither worked. He tried remicade again. This time he did 10 mg out of 600 for the 1st hour to see if I would have a reaction. If not then he would give me the rest. But I did right towards the end of the hour. So it was canceled. Thanks for asking the question.  While I'm not on remicade (enbrel for me) it's good to know that you have options.

Mostly, though - thanks for the chuckle.

Cathy
The OT made me laugh cause I've been thinking the same thing lately!
