I broke my wrist 15 weeks ago.  still getting a lot of pain from it, and not even able to open a bottle of water with it from the pain.  seeing hand specialist tomorrow after having MRI, but his last comments were that we would either be looking at surgery OR just put it down to that its not going to heal properly because of the RA?

just wondering if other have breaks that didn't heal 'because of the RA"?

Thanks
I didn't break my wrist, but I tore something about 3/4" below my wrist bone on the inside-side of my wrist (if that makes sense) It hurt to turn my hand palm up and also to open things. I had surgery and it is good as new, it just took a long time to heal even after the cast came off. Good luck!

I had a fractured sacrum which healed okay despite the RA.  I don't know much about the wrist though, it's bones and joints and all.  Are you getting enough calcium, vit d, perhaps discuss w/your doc.  Maybe a wrist support thingy would help, I have one, that I wear at night, seems to keep my wrist from aching as much, I had to get a prescription to get it.  Good luck w/your appt tomorrow.

Hi Clufus, sorry to hear of your problem, its a shame that we all seem to have ongoing probs and when one subsides (if it does) another one rears its ugly head!

I have had three unhealed fractures in my feet, they think due to RA and osteoporosis, the fractures happened over 2 years ago on one foot and on the other foot, once about 18mths ago and then refractured or unhealed again in around Feb this year.  These will not heal due to RA apparently and slow healing due to long term steroids.  So I hope your wrist improves, and that you can put it all behind you soon, regards Jane.

Thanks for your input.  Turns out it will be surgery, actualy 2.  I have 2 bones that have not healed, one of them is going to require a bone graft from my hip.  2 weeks in a splint 10 weeks in a cast.  now i am worried in case i get a flare up while trying to recover.
I had your same concerns when I had to go off my RA meds, enbrel and mtx, during my hip replacement surgeries, but I was fortunate, I didn't have a RA flare during this time.  Sometimes docs can prescribe something else for the RA during your postop period, I think I was prescribed celebrex after my knee replacement surgery, to tie me over before I went back to my regular RA meds.  None of us like the idea of having surgery, but as someone who has four joint replacements I am thankful for the reduction in pain and increase in function such surgeries can provide.  I hope you have similar positive results w/your wrist surgery too.  Take care and good luck.
