OT - the dreaded man-colds | Arthritis Information

First my little one got the mini-man cold earlier this week... then the husband got the big-man cold last night.  Actually I feel kinda bad for him; he can't take any decongestants because of his heart condition.  I took pity on him last night and slipped him a Pamine (anticholinergic used to calm overactive GI tract and ease nausea).  Its chief side effect is the tendency to dry up everything...eyes, nose mouth, etc.UH OH!  Sorry he is not feeling well.

I'm sure you've seen this since you refer to the "man cold" but just in case others have'nt
seen it before I thought I post the link
UH OH!  Sorry he is not feeling well. JR if I was you I'd invite Sam Adams over! You have my condolences!I laughed out loud at this; not that he's sick, but my husband
is moaning and groaning cause he's got the sniffles.  Not that
I'm a mean person, but I'd like him to experience ONE day of
what it's like to have an AI Disease.  Colds, flu, etc., NOT A
BIG DEAL.  Hate to categorize all men, but usually wimpy.
Oh I hear you!!  My boys have had a cold for about a week and I got it a few days ago so I am just waiting for his to start.    I got the cold this morning... grrr.  I've got to be out all weekend walking the precinct, distributing literature... can't wait Oh that sucks!  This is the second cold I've had already and it's only October.  I hope you feel better and make it through the weekend! Luckily my precinct is not very big, geographic-wise... and not so luckily, there are not many GOP voters, so I only have about 100 living units to hit.  The walk will be good for me... at least I keep telling myself that!!!LOL @ Jasmine & the man cold, but I can so relate with my hubby of 21 years or 15 year old son. When they are sick....lookout, the world should revolve around them. When I'm sick, I cook dinner, start a load of laundry, clean off dining room table (which is the drop zone in my house), . What's that old song. OH "I can bring home the bacon, free it up in a pan, and never let you forget you're a man, cuz' I'm a womannnnnnnnnnnn!!! Here us roar. Oops that's another song.
Geez, you are so right! LOL
ooops. that's "fry the bacon" not "free it". Sorry!Well, we survived the colds.  I didn't get the literature distributed today because of the high winds here in Chicagoland; hopefully I'll get it done tomorrow and Tuesday.  I can't wait until election season is over!!!  Surprisingly I have not had any campaign signs stolen from my yard this year... the local dems are fond of stealing signs.  In years past, they have paid a bounty on GOP signs.  And no, I'm not saying that only dems steal signs... that's just the way it works in my area.  I'm sure the GOP'ers steal dem signs in other areas. We had those high winds here in central IL. I was pumping gas and I felt my car move! Also it blew my purse off the car! Cold tonight 30 degrees! brrrrr I had to turn on the heater!
ooops. that's "fry the bacon" not "free it". Sorry!

how old is your son? He sounds like a funny kid! We had turkey dinner with all the fixings at our church's fundraiser. Sooooo goood!! I took a hour nap after eating.
He's 9... and he's quite a crack-up!
My son is too. He cracks everyone up! He's 15 and driving.  I can't believe where the time has gone. Seems like yesterday he was 9.
We had those high winds here in central IL. We might get flurries tonight.  It's 60 degrees in my bedroom right now - perfect for sleeping!!!  I keep the upstairs heat turned down low. We keep the downstairs (husband and kids' bedrooms are down there) warmer - usually 70 when we're up, and about 65 at night.  I just bought new down comforters and flannel comforter covers for everyone (really cheap at overstock.com!) and OMG OMG OMG they are wonderful!  It is so hard to get out of bed in the morning!!!!
Just heard on the news that the winds were gusting up to 42 in Springfield and 54 MPH in Bloomington. How high did they get in the Windy City?
Just heard on the news that the winds were gusting up to 42 in Springfield and 54 MPH in Bloomington. How high did they get in the Windy City?
The official airport records show gusts up to 40MPH but I swear some of them seem higher than that!
if the wind was behind my car, I could save money on gas. lolI remember driving westward across Illinois one time in my 3-cylinder Geo Metro on a very windy day (winds were 50MPH + and there was an advisory out for all semi drivers).  I could not get that car over 60MPH, with the pedal all the way to the floor!  Normally that car got about 50MPG on the highway, but that day I think I got about 20MPG!  Gotta love the open plains! i wouldn't want to drive a semi in that kind of weather. It hard enough to drive my van when I had it.
i wouldn't want to drive a semi in that kind of weather. It hard enough to drive my van when I had it.
It was kinda freaky... but I get far more nervous driving through 3-D terrain.  Even the rolling hills of western Wisconsin make me want to throw up!  I constantly feel like we're gonna fall off the expressway.  That's what I get for living 40 years on the grid here in Flatland, I guess.  And the really weird thing is... I can fly a plane just fine and that's a whole lot more "3-D' than driving over a few hills!
wow you can fly a plane? How kewl is that?  What kind of plane? My son's dream come true. He wants to be a pilot in the military and I have been trying to talk him out of it for years. Don't think my heart could take it.
wow you can fly a plane? How kewl is that?  What kind of plane? My son's dream come true. Just the little single-engine Cessna's.  I don't have my pilot's license, because I have an annoying arrhythmia and the FAA gets worried about people falling out of the sky.I bet it is. I know my son would love it but I'm trying to talk him into farming. Much calmer than a fighter pilot and he would be close to home. Grandpa has acres of land that will be passed down someday. Maybe he can pick it up as a hobby or be a crop duster??? It's his life but ........mom's worry. You know how it is.
I bet it is. He can take an introductory flying lesson for about at most flying clubs - your regional airport probably has a couple of clubs.  He will be able to do the take-off and landing, and be in control of the plane.  Don't worry - the instructor also has a full set of controls on his/her side and won't let him fall out of the sky!  It costs about 00 or so to get a private pilot's license (like a basic driver's license - you can take passengers but you can't get paid).  He can become a flight instructor and actually make money at it while getting the necessary hours to get his commercial pilot's license. I think you need a commercial license to do crop dusting, but I'm not sure.  With a commercial license, he can fly corporate jets, do regional transport, or even fly for the big guys.  You've got to be in top physical shape to get a pilot's license, though - and the air force has even more stringent requirements than a regular old commercial license.

Most small airplane crashes don't result in death or dismemberment - even if the engine dies or something goes wrong with the plane you can coast down to a "safe" landing (often in a field or on a highway).  A good landing is one where you walk away... a great landing is one where you can reuse the plane afterwards!!!
