Thyroid Blood Test Results | Arthritis Information

Well I'm glad that I went and had my bloodwork run at my GP, since I hadn't had it done since 7/2007.  But...it wasn't very helpful.  The ONLY things that were high or low were the three values that show anemia (and I already knew I was anemic).  I was at 11.9 for HGB so I'm just slightly anemic.

Then there were three things flagged for a big change from my 7/2007 visit...calcium went down, globulin went down, and alk phos went down.  But all were within normal range.

So my TSH was just as normal as it could be...1.92.
I'm trying to figure out if any other thyroid numbers were run...doesn't look like it?
I don't see anyting that says T3 or T4, unless they are called something else, looks like only the basic test was run?

But I do have the ultrasound Monday morning.  My thyroid is still really tender.  I feel awful this weekend, but I think it's just from whatever virus is going around.  Not sure whether to take MTX or not tonight.  I went to bed at 8:30 on Thursday and 9 last night, slept til 8.  Still feel crappy..not tired, just not good.  But both boys seem to be doing fine (although hubby slept from 8 to 8 last night...but he had been up a lot at night recently with our youngest).

So no real info re thyroid.  I just know the thing is tender to the touch, and I guess that's not normal.  Murphy's law says it feels great Monday am for the ultrasound. :)

Katie,

I'm not sure why doctors sometimes just run the TSH without the T3 and T4.   My dad was treated for Hyperthyroidism for years until he finally got referred to a specialist.  That doctor ran the rest of the tests and said that he was actually Hypo, not Hyper.  Weird, huh?

I hope you find out what's wrong and that you feel better real soon!
I would think that if you have an unidentified infection somewhere, you should probably hold off on the methotrexate.  Definitely double-check with your doctor's office and/or your pharmacist. Thanks!  Part of me thinks that the MTX is finally starting to work, why skip it?  But I KNOW I am really sick with a virus.  I take Mobic every day and I figure that alone may be supressing a fever (although I was 99.1 this morning).  So I guess I'll skip it.

I think they ran a full panel on me in 7/2007, and she said "panel", maybe she did run that and it's on the way? In any event I have the scan on Monday morning...7:15, I'll be bright eyed and bushy tailed, Im sure!
When I was on MTX, I could have sworn my RD said I didn't have to stop the MTX unless my infection was a repiratory one.  I'm sure I probably just misunderstood him.  Or, maybe I'm just getting old and losing my memory.
Katie, My Rheumy said it takes 3 wks for mtx to be completely out of your system, so delaying for a day or two probably won't make that much of a difference. Early morning appts. are the worst, lol. At least they won't have a chance to fall behind and make you wait, so there is that advantage. Keep on resting this weekend!

hugs!
Deb
Remember that you could have a localized autoimmune disease like Hashimoto's or Graves.  I believe our thyroids (well, my surgically-removed thyroid) are our canaries, early warning system.  It's important to be tested regularly with RA.  My FP does one extra test with the TSH, like T3 one appt, T4 the next, and rotates them around.  Cost effective too.  Good luck.  justsaynoemore2008-10-25 15:34:32I developed Hashimotos about 15 years ago. Been on synthroid ever since.  I think I have had RA for  about 2 years , but just went to the Cleveland clinic and got a dx. Would be interesting to see how many people have co -exsisting systemic issues along with RA.Both my Mom and Sister, although their numbers were within the range, have hypothyroidism.  Some peoples "normal" number is different than the number used for "normal".  Is your number different than it was say 10 years ago?  If it is then you may have a thyroid problem and the Dr. just doesn't realize it, that is if he is a different Dr. than you used before.  Compare your number to one taken long time ago, that will help.

I appreciate your input despite my more than minor frustration with you right now. :)You definitely should have free t3 and free t4 run if it wasn't because just TSH alone doesn't always find problems.

glad you had the testing done, KatieG...

are you often thirsty?

Hmmm...I go through periods where I am thirsty a lot.  I have the feeling like I haven't had a glass of water in a while, go to get one, and remember that I just finished a glass.  Does anyone know how long for the results of a thyroid scan?  I will I will I will ask in the morning!!  But I fully expect "I don't know I just take the pictures." :)Katie ask for your T3 and T4 levels to be checked. I had just about every hypo thyroid symptom on the list, but had an overall in range number. I went to a new gp and she did a more thorough check and I was borderline low. She started me on a low dose of Armour Thyroid. I felt a difference within a couple of days. She also checked my adrenals and vitamin D at the same time. My adrenals were low as well so I am taking 30 mg. DHEA, and 1000 mg vitamin D. I cannot believe how much better I am feeling. I hope you get some answers.also you need to have the thyroid anti bodies checked
Thyroglobulin Antibodies and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies
I will probably have all of that checked.  I had my u/s this morning.  I could see the screen while she was doing one side.  There were little things she was measuring that I assume were nodules.  I couldn't tell if there were 3 on that side or she labelled different views 1, 2 and 3.  I about broke my eyeballs trying to watch.  One of them was .3 cm across, so that's not big.  I couldn't feel any, so they may still be incidental.  I couldn't see the screen for the scan of the other side.

I am officially announcing, declaring and promising that I have read all there is to read about thyroid nodules, realize most are completely benign, cannot guess anything based on waht I saw, and will patiently wait for my doctor's office to call sometime this week, and will not waste any more time worrying or looking at things on the internet.  God help me to keep that promise but I need to at least not look at anything else online and get to work!!!  Patience is a virtue, right?  I will think that everytime I reach to go to google. :)

your salivary glands are located near the parotids...    mine are sometimes enlarged and tender...

anything else dry?
babs102008-10-27 11:41:31Yup.  My eyes were really hurting today. I know I need drops but I just deal because I haven't been able to do that to myself (the doctor hardly can).  But if it continues I will have to learn, because I had to stop working today.  My lips have been very dry recently too.  Would an endocrinologist know about parotids?  I just feel like there is always so much other stuff to discuss with RD, and it takes me 30 minutes to get any other doctor up to speed, this is so exhausting.  My dad goes to the Cleveland Clinic (we are 6 hours away but he feels its worth it) and I think he is going to help me get an appointment there after I get my x-rays at the oral surgeon so my care can be coordinated.  But its ridiculous though.  I saw the RD at Vandy and I should go there and there's the whole monthly bloodwork thing.  I can't be going up to Cleveland every month.  Nashville, maybe.  So we'll see.
