Good bye to You All | Arthritis Information

I want to say goodbye to you all.  I can no longer participate in this forum because I am a african american woman and it is clear I do not belong or are wanted here.   I do wish all of you (even those of you who refer to me and my race as niggers) the very best with your RA treatments and I pray that one day God will give us a cure for this horrible disease.  I want to thank all of you for the information you gave me that has helped me.  God Bless you all!

I am sorry you have had to put up with this.

I forgot to say, I want you here! Please do continue to post with any questions.  But I can't blame you for not wanting to scroll through the ridiculous threads that surround RA info!Aleva,

Please don't leave, you are just as welcome here as anyone.  This is a ra forum for human beings with ra, I know that it doesn't seem like it lately.  I am sorry that you have been offended by what other's here have said and I don't blame you.  Please don't take their ignorance as everyone's opinion, because it is not!

Aleva -

Please don't leave - I know it must be so incredibly hard to have faced the ignorance and hatefilled rhetoric of a few people on this board.  I cannot understand why Earnest allows this and this shows why we depserately need a moderator.

Hugs and LOVE -

Pip

Aleva,
don't let the few represent the whole. there are nuts every where. please just skip the posts that are meant to push people's buttons. cheers
I just want to join the others in saying, "DON'T LEAVE."Aleva, Let me add my words to the others. Please don't leave! I have missed the post about which you are speaking. I'm glad I did, but it really angers me to think we have people like that here.
You deserve an apology and I hope that whoever wrote that will apologize or leave this forum. We don't want or need them here.

I hope you will reconsider.
Hugs, Nini
What? Who said that, who called you that? I had NO idea you're black, I don't care what color anyone is. We're all here for the same thing not matter where we're from, what color our skin is or what sex we are. Don't leave because you think someone here is bigotted. I live in Alabama, the ignorance capital of the south. I abhor racism even though I grew up in a racist environment. They intergrated schools here when I was 9, we were all scared, black, white and anywhere in between. Once they had us all  together in classes, we were fine. Please don't leave on the account of someone STUPID. Stay, you may have something to say that will help another one of "us". You are one of us.I completely understand that you are wanting to leave. I've been debating it myself as I can't stand the ignorance and racism that has been spread on this forum lately. I thought it was supposed to be about RA. Please know that there are many of us on this site that really would hate to see you leave. I agree that we really need a moderator! Maybe if we all just ignore the posts from those particular individuals(we all know who they are) they would give up and go away.Laura i wish it was that simple, ignoring their silly remarks has always been easy but ignoring a major issue like racism is hard, it has become personal. maybe if we all threatned to hijack the board and leave ernest will get a moderator. I have left on numerous occasions just to have a break  but for aleva to leave because of her colour is heartbreaking. I am looking at other forums, just not sure which are genuine ones to join.

Aleva,

I'm sorry to hear you are leaving, especially over this issue.  I didn't know you are African American and it shouldn't matter.
Phats
All I can say is I am so sorry Aleva.  You didn't deserve any of the ugliness and anger.  I never saw any of the posts you are discussing but you have as much right to be as anyone else.  Please don't leave.

Perhaps whoever posted inappropriate posts should leave.
Yicks! I didn't realize anything like this was going on either. I haven't heard any type of racism on this board at all.  Maybe I just haven't read the topics involved. Even the political hatred I see related to Obama hasn't been about his race.

Sorry you've been made to feel that way. Honestly I never know whos black, white....hispanic or otherwise.

Hope you change your mind. If you are getting that feeling from some or someone I'm sure they are not in the majority but the minority.

Take care.

For those that were unaware of the thread that was the center of this, it was the "Colin Powell" thread.  And, yes, there were some very racist things said there.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and yes, in this country, we have freedom of speech, but along with that comes a responsibility to conduct one's speech with a degree of respect for other's on this forum, for this is a forum for ALL with RA who come here for support, encouragement and information.

If the numbers on this forum should dwindle, if the businesses that pay for advertisments here should become aware that people are not using this forum because of the contentiousness and cancel their advertisements that support AI, then this website could be in jeopardy.

Pin- I agree with you that racism is something none of us should ignore and is one of the main reasons I too will be leaving this board. I only meant that if no one responded to the posters that are always creating trouble maybe they would give up and go away. I realize that was just wishful thinking of my part and we must take a stand on issues like this. I wish you well and maybe I'll see you and all the others leaving on another board. Yes you did Sno- and your message is a good one and a very true one!

Aleva- I thank you for your support that you gave me- if you go it will be gone.
I'm thinking of leaving too, I came here for RA but I also got wrapped up in all the political posts, the liberal clique started it all with their "liberal chat" thread, that was just asking for trouble.I've been noticing the political shift that has taken place here as of late too.   I just preferred to keep my opinion on the presidential race to myself.  Sure, I will discuss it with people face to face all they want, but on here I don't want to offend anyone since were're all here for support, advice, and I hope friendship of sorts.  (hey we all have at least ONE thing in common remember?)

So speaking for myself and as it seems most of the other folks here..please don't leave just because some people maybe didn't think before they typed.

Bob H.
it all goes back to personal responsibilty for each persons own words and simple respect for the other posters.

Every single one of us CHOOSES what we say and how we say it.  It is no one elses fault when any of us chooses to respond to a post.  A battle on this board is NEVER all the other guys fault.  As Bob said...think before you post.  If you won't say something under your real name dont hide behind a screen name to say the same thing
buckeye2008-10-26 04:05:06

THIS ALL STARTED WITH LORSTERS LIBERAL CHAT POST. IF ANYONE VOICED A COSERVATIVE OPINION YOU WERE TOLD TO LEAVE THE POST. HER CLIQUE HAS ALWAYS BEEN RUDE AND I'VE RESPONDED IN KIND!! YOU SHOULDN'T LEAVE SINCE YOU'RE ABLE TO IGNORE POSTS THAT ARE POLITICAL IN NATURE THAT MAY HAVE COMMENTS THAT YOU MAY FIND OFFENSIVE. IF YOU DO LEAVE, GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HEALTH.

                                   DONN

Aleva...I dont blame you for wanting to leave.  And I am sorry it has come to this with others leaving also. moderated!
Actually, try the one posted at Pincushions last thread.....

Interesting to see some of the perpertrators here feeling a little sorry for themselves. Just a tad late.

Best of luck to you

Aleva,

Maybe you're being too sensitive?  I don't recall anyone naming names.
Audrey
Politics should be strictly forbidden on this site.  Most legitimate, responsible websites that discuss science, medicine, or other unrelated topics ban posts and posters who slip their political views into a forum. There are hundreds of political websites from which to choose, pick one and keep the heated talk out of here, PLEASE.  To do otherwise is asking for trouble.  Name calling -- use of the "N" word and "white trash" (nice) is simply unacceptable.

Audrey.  There are no words.  Just pathetic.

Aleve:
For what it's worth, I am not an Afraican American but am also totally offended also by the derogatory comments by certain people on this board.  This behavior has no place in polite society nor on a support forum.  My advice is to ignore these folks who use contraversial posts in order to gain attention.
Ann
Aleva,
I have not read and do not participate in the political threads on this site because this is an Arthritis forum, not a political forum. I used to come everyday, more than once a day, now I only come if I have something I want to post and occasionally to see if I have gotten a reply to my post. Some people just don't get it, growing up, I was taught you don't discuss politics or religion in public and I don't.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it is wrong to push it upon others and degrade them if they don't share you opinion. There are several on this board that do just that, and unfortunately they probably won't go away.

Stick around, we are not all racist, and don't all discuss politics on a board not related to such. After 11/4 this will all be over, no matter who wins, we're stuck with them for at least 4 years and no amount of complaining will change that fact.
[QUOTE=SnowOwl]I've posted this message before to another longstanding member who chose to leave.

If you don't like the mood the forum, or the sorts of posts being made, be a good example.

Post messages that are positive, that have content that's caring, educational, supportive, life-affirming.

Be a good example.  People who remain and post messages that have substance attract other people who have good hearts and something of substance to contribute.

Be supportive.  Be a good person.  Ignore the obvious efforts of trolls and persons for whom even bad attention is good attention.

Be a good example.  Stay.  Be you.  Why abandon the people you care about and let the trolls and negative attention seekers "win"?  They're nothing to you, or me, let them rant and don't respond, don't feed the trolls.

If good people leave, who's left behind?  What sort of message does that send to a support forum?  A good one?  One that's caring?  Why let the nasties run you off?  Who are they that they're so important to you?  They're nothing.  They're nobody.  Why are they being given so much power over good people and keeping people who need support from getting it?  Their words are silly.  Their words are empty desperate attempts to get as many people stirred up and paying attention to them as possible.  That makes them laugh.

Be a good example.  Make a positive note.  The mood of a forum can be changed by people posting messages of support, that are life-affirming, compassionate, have perspective and substance, humor, humility, and a little human dignity.

I'm standing here w/ SnowOwl.

No one is going to make me leave... no one is going to take away the positives I've found on this forum.

Running does nothing but give them what they want.

Stand your ground.  Take the forum back.  Ignore the "Uglies" and they will loose their interest when no one comments back.

Stay... build a good website... build THIS website into a good website.
I'm with Babs.  Good post.Hello, I've just joined this website today and have found your message. Dont leave!!!! we all suffer from the same disease and inside we are all the same colour, just because we have different coloured skin doesn't mean a thing, let the biggots write what they want, we just see what total idiots they are by what they write. I am so sorry you have been made to feel this way, try hard to ignore them they are stupid and immature and bullies.
Love  Mary. Northumberland UK

I came to this forum because I suffered with RA and was looking for others to share experiences and to get advice.  There are always troublemakers and stirrers where ever you go and you need to just ignore them...............I only come here every fews day now but there seems to be more on politics than RA..........

I really don't think politics have a place here on this forum, but those who want to discuss politics can make another OT condition or forum if you know what I mean and discuss it there.

There are so many knowledgable people here with great advice, it seems a damn shame
to send newbies packing with all this stupid arguing from people who have nothing better to do..........Annie

Aleva,

It was your choice to go to a political thread and get involved in a debate. Everything was fine until you couldn't win. The debate was about Colin Powell and just like in the media part of the debate was about race and racism. You knew that when you decided to join the debate. You believe that what you don't like should be qwuelled. Stand up for me cause I'm alot like Rosa Parks. You aren't going to make me sit anywhere and shut me up. NEWSFLASH ALEVA, there is black racism in this country. You would be very happy to complain about white racism in this country as you just did and of course the part that doesn't surprise me is that to try to "win" you play the race card, you know, the one that trumps everything, including truth and righteousness. You've been taught well. Good riddence.

Most African Americans have not had the opportunities in America that whites have. They came out of slavery with nothing and were a poor population. Most times, it takes several generations to rise above the prejudice and injustice blacks have endured in America. It was less than fifty years ago that the civil rights movement helped to change laws but much prejudice remains. If you are raised in the projects, with drive by shootings, where the only way most of your peers can make money or be accepted is getting involved in drugs, where the schools are so ridiculously underfunded that even if you lock your door, are not influenced by the poverty and crime around you, study hard and do well in the public school system in your neighborhood, and you want to go to college - you would likely have a sixth grade education rather than a 12th grade. Times are changing and I will be proud of the US if we can elect an African American as president but just read some of these posts. Prejudice still exists. Lets rise above it and accept people as individuals. There are so many people now from the sixties generation who had interracial children - someday you will not know the difference by skin color. I look forward to that day. PS Obama is half white - and that does not seem to matter it is only his blackness that is talked about. And yet Roxy, many people have risen out of poverty to become highly successful.  So I guess that means that it can be done, but alot of people choose the easier path.  Oh, btw, it has been several generations since slavery.
Deleted out of respect for others.
AchingAudrey2008-11-06 19:29:12WHY IS IT THAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE SAME VIEW ON THINGS AS THE ELITE ON THIS SITE YOU'RE CALLED A "TROUBLE MAKER"?Coming from Oz I am apalled at some of the postings on this forum, and some of you have the audacity to call this a discussion .........what a load of!!!

Aleva don't leave ---
Don't make it easy for them ---

From reading these posts it seems there are plenty of people on this forum who are supporting and will continue to support you ---

Wow. I am so sorry that you had to endure prejudice here on this site. I wouldn't blame you one bit if you didn't return.

I know one thing... had I known this was an unmoderated site, I would never have joined either. I got stung by a member and it left a really bad taste in my mouth about this site altogether. I only pop in from time to time now.

KLM,
Sorry, but you brought this on yourself.  You jumped square into a political thread with both feet.  You got what you asked for.
