I overcame accute gout | Arthritis Information

I was an acute gout sufferer for over five years.  I have now taken control, via diet, by following the advice from other sufferers who have posted their experiences on the Web.  Seeing the variety of foods that may cause my condition I decided that the culprits must be those that I eat regularly.  These turned out to be tomatoes (or anything tomato based including ketchup), peas (the pulse I ate regularly) and spinach (from my salads).  However, I have found that the quickest way for me to have another attack is to eat shellfish or offal.  Thanks to other suffers out there I now lead a normal life – thankyou.Same Here Sanyad, i think if i stop eating and drinking altogether ill have it cracked at least until i die from starvation lol. I hav reduced alcohol intake by about 80% and am trying to be tea total if i can, also reduced the liver (my fav food) now to about 2 times a year drinking lots more water as soon as my present bout of gout is over im starting to exercise more, ive had gout for 7 years now in left and right foot(not at same time) and left ankle tried al sorts of pills etc prescribed and alternative nothing has made any difference up to now  im on meds for High Blood Pressure (about 15 years now) and have been told they may be the cause but wont change them, i always seem to have gout for 2 weeks or so before it decides to calm down anyway il have to hobble away from pc now catch you later Skiddly   re the high blood pressure meds post should have been doc wont change themSorry but what is Gout exactly? A quick answer would suffice. Ive always heard about it just not quite sure what it is. Hi Everyone, I too was a major sufferer of gout. I have made some major changes in my diet with the limitations of shell fish and spinach. I recall the minor signs of the throbbing and then waking up in the middle of the night with the excruciating pain.

One thing that has helped me fight off gout is Pure Black Cherry concentrate that you can purchase at your local health shop. I have read an article on a study done at the University of California Davis where Cherries have properties to help and fight off Uric acid levels. I actually like the taste and include Black cherry drinks as part of my diet.

My gout  symptoms (& pain) were greatly reduced by taking a tablespoonful of Cider-Vinegar BEFORE each & every meal. It tastes awful, so was followed immediately by a large spoonful of Honey. Combined with the avoidance of Citrus,Tomatoes & Liver, this kept me sane for the years of suffering before a new Doctor pinpointed my  BP med (Tenormin Ls -- it may have different name in different countries) as the primary cause.

It took another couple of years before I became (relatively) free, but can now prevent attacks developing by reverting to the above regime as soon as any tenderness starts.

There are several BP meds which list Gout as a possible trigger --- & many more which are triggers that don't !    I've tried several alternatives that had the same effect, chop & swap till you find ones that suit you (& work)
If your Doc won't change your prescription --- change you Doc --
