I also have Diabetes as well as RA. I am so lucky....LOL  I  was having some side effects of meds, constipation, and started taking Benefiber in liquids twice a day. During this time I couldnt help but notice that my blood sugar was going down even though I didnt change my diet or activity pattern. I had to decrease my insulin by several units. I spoke to my Dr about this and he said it was very possible that the Benefiber could be doing this. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this?

Hello Lesle

Fiber is the way to better health but you have to eat the right fibers to keep our bodies at their best performance..

By eating oatmeal every morning for 6 weeks I lowered my cholesterol faster than taking Zocor...So there definitely is something about fiber and good health. (constipation included...LOL).

Just for general knowledge, I included a link for more information on the benefits of fiber.

Keep up the good work Lesle.

Hope your day is full of sunshine.

Hiya Lesle,

I used to be a diabetes consultant in a former job, and I came across this as well. I'm assuming the Benefiber is a fibre supplement you drink like Metamucil. The way it works is that the fibre absorbs some of the fats in the foods you eat and passes them through. By doing this, it means the sugar you are taking in can be metabolised quicker, as sugars combined with fats are broken down more slowly. You just have to watch out that you don't go too low and go into a hypo. This is what we theorised anyway
