High BP and Medrol Dose Pak | Arthritis Information

My Rheummy gave me a Dose pak yesterday for a major flare I am having.  Took all 6 yesterday and three today.  BP went to 172/82 at lunch today and refuses to go down.  Called my Primary Care and was told to stop Dose Pak.  Has anyone had this problem before?  It really stinks because I couldnt take my pain med either this afternoon because of BP.  Now I have massive headache, burning eyes and hurt really really bad.  We should all be given Oscars for putting up with this horrible disease!   Thanks to all for listening---LindaJust another reason I refuse to take the stuff. I read the insert from the pharmacy and it was enough for me to say "no way!" I'm sorry you hurt. There's gotta be something for pain that you could take.?? Call that dr back!

I hope you get some relief soon!
take care

Sorry you are feeling so crappy Linda! Can you believe my BP went down when I was on high doses of prednisone? No one ever told me that was why but it was such a coincidence.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you CinDee, you can bet the next time someone mentions Medrol Dose pak or Prednisone I will run for the hills!!  that's just me......other people probably have benefited from it but I didn't. I did not like the side effects.Sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction to the Medrol.  Personally, I absolutely LOVE the medrol dose-paks.  I seem to need one 2 or 3 times per year, and they always work wonders for me, with no ill effects so far (except for an extreme burst of energy and a desire to clean the house).  I always have one tucked away, just in case. I'm not having that problem with a medrol dose pack but with REALLY high dose, long term prednisone use.  MY BP last night was 170/108 and now I'll have to start a BP med.  I hope it's only until I can get down to a safe dose of the steroids.  Until then, I'll have to wait for the enbrel to work better so that I can begin an exercise program. BP meds are not a life sentence - once the cause of your hypertension is removed (prednisone) you should be able to wean off the blood pressure medication (with your doctor's guidance and supervision). Thanks jasmine that makes me feel better.  Actually, my doc did mention that if I can get to a safe dose of pred and begin an effective exercise program I might be able to get off of them.  He says if I get my BP to somewhere around 120/80 or lower he would remove the meds.
We'll see
