I'm still pondering how the heck my triglycerides can be 976!

I was just thinking- I got a flu shot right before the blood test. Any nurses/medical professionals out there that might now if that would influence those numbers?
WOW maybe the screwed up the test. I would get a re-test. *(That's the highest I have ever heard of)*
Sounds like an error. Demand a RE-DO!nope no idea from me.

Just wanted to say... I refuse to get that shot or any other "preventive measure" shot for a sickness I never get anyways.

*pounds closed fist on table repeatingly insync with the chantting*

REDO... REDO... REDO... REDO... REDOOOOOOOOOOO!
nope no idea from me. LOL I get my re-do in 3 weeks.  I'm supposed to watch my diet which now consists or 1200 calories of nothing. Oatmeal or Cream of Wheat for breakfast, green salad or soup for lunch, sensible dinner of 3 oz portion of meat, veggies and usually a potato, ocassionally some noodle dish. I have not every day but most- a mini hershey bar after lunch and 1/4 cup icecream after dinner. Sometimes substitute chrusik for one of those treats.
If I have to give these treats up too- after I've already had to give up my cocktails for the MTX...I really don't see the point....
fish oil and oatmeal. increase fiber. don't eat anything processed. increase water intake, increase exercise, lots of veggies, fruits, nuts and beans, lean meat. if none of this works, go for the statins. your risk of heart disease is increased with numbers this high. also, a retest is in order. don't think it is related to the flu shot but were you fasting for 14 hours prior to this test? all these things should be considered. Jas, I have never had a flu shot, work as a nurse with lots of illnesses. I will NEVER get one, NEVER. Diet...did you say the "D"word Lorster?...I shutter at the "D" word.
I am not sure what could cause the sugar that high, But I hope you get a reasonable solution to this mystery.......Redo...Redo...you guys crack me up...lol
Jas, I have never had a flu shot, work as a nurse with lots of illnesses. I will NEVER get one, NEVER.
Good.  More vaccine for the rest of us.
Fast was probably more like 11 hrs....
Today I am going back to trying exercise....
WannaBe, my mom has had triglycerides like yours for many years now, so it isn't unheard of.  I am very aware of that in watching mine, which have started to edge up, the older I get.  My mother has tried all of the prescription cholesteral drugs, and has had serious side effects with all of them, so I don't want to get to the point I need them also.

Watch the sugars you eat, they have an impact on your triglycerides.  Everyone else has given you great ideas about what you should be eating, but you also need to know there is a strong genetic component to this.  You can eat all the twigs and berries you can stand and still have an elevated cholesteral.  Don't beat yourself up over it or stress about it.  Just do the best you can and enjoy each day.  Happiness is highly underrated as a medical treatment!
HH- has your mom had any heart attacks or strokes because of this? That is what my doctor is warning me about.
My Mom has high tryglycerides too despite meds but  only in the high 200's.

I'm trying to determine what is an acceptable amount of sugar grams per day for a 1200 cal diet but I'm having a little trouble finding the info.

Once I have this info I will decide if I am in denial now- I don't think I eat very much sugar. I know  a lot of carbs are converted into sugar too... I just know I eat a heck of a lot healthier than anyone else I know and they are fine. This really ticks me off!

Breads, potatoes, fruits--all convert into sugar.   Get re-tested before you drive yourself crazy.  The lab may have screwed something up.  My mom is 81, hasn't had a heart attack, but she has had an angioplasty and a stint to prevent one.  But she also smokes a lot, which contributes to the cardiovascular problems.
