Graves Disease? | Arthritis Information

Well I got a copy of my thyroid report because my doctors office closed at 12, I called the hospital and it was ready and I could just pick one up myself.

It didn't talk about the nodules a lot (separate report?) but I had increased uptake at 24 hours and it said Graves disease/thyroiditis.

More later but for now I am glad to know why I get so STARVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean around 11:00 am I get to where I would take food from a child. I didn't eat until late because I drove to get my report and I am eating now but the pissy starving feeling hasn't gone away quite yet...crispy chicken sandwich to the rescue...

Katie, Did they CK for antibodies ? TSI ( Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobin ) ?? Done by blood test.

I am in a ridiculous situation.  I went to the nurse practitioner at my GP, and she said she was going to run a full thyroid panel, but the ONLY thing they have done is TSH, which was 1.9.  I tried to talk with the nurse about going in for the rest of the obviously necessary bloodwork (they referred me for an ultrasound and uptake/scan...without getting all the bloodwork) and she just brushed me off and I dont' even want to talk about it.  But all of the endos require a referral.  So I guess I'll wait for them to call on Monday (they closed at noon today and I guess didn't get the report in time) and just ask for a referral.  I hope they don't make me come in for an appointment.  Whatever is going on is really strange.  My dad has pituitary issues and is hypothyroid but maybe he once had Graves, I have no idea.

So pissed because I went to the doc after my second son was born b/c my thighs were so weak, and they still are, and i never got answers (he said my TSH was fine, even on the hyper side...I didn't press for follow-up because we were thinking I was hypothyroid).  And my arms get so weak sometimes.  ANYWAY.  No point in getting angry now, just need to see someone else (and remember to be a b*tch at the doctor when necessary).

And I shouldn't be angry because someone should have ordered a thyroid ultrasound on me a long time ago, so I'm lucky that I saw the nurse practitioner, who didn't hesitate to schedule it.  I never even knew it was an option before!

And, to clarify:
2 weeks ago: went to NP, said it felt like I was choking, neck is tender, felt AWFUL
She ordered TSH and ultrasound.
TSH came back normal, at 1.9.
Went to ultrasound.  Nodules detected.  Scan recommended.
Doctor's office called: said we need to schedule you for scan.
Scan this week.
So I haven't been back since the initial visit.
I guess I'm waiting for them to get the scan back and assess.
But it seems ridiculous to not order more bloodwork in the meantime.
Argh.
KatieG2008-11-07 15:10:48Katie, it really does sound like you could use a new doctor. See if you can get in to an endocrinologist or at least an internist. You are at a point with your health that you need something more. I have nothing against GP's but at some point when we start running into multiple problems, it is nice to see someone who specializes in your problem. Katie, May I suggest going over to thyroidhost.proboard30.com/index.cgi
