I have just started on MTX Inections and have been given 1mg folate and 5mg. How much do you take daily to reduce side effects?
I'm on 20 mg of MTX which is taken on Saturday night.
I have been told to take 5mg of Folate on Wednesday and another 5mg on Fridays.
You should of had some form of instruction as to when to take.
Just a little bump on this one.
The rheumy has always said just to take 1 mg a day.
lorrie2008-11-23 22:58:21I've been on mtx for a little over 18 months - varied dosage from 15mg (current) to 25 mg. I've always taken 1mg/ folic acid/ day. Very little, if any side-effects from mtx which may be why it's only 1mg.

Hey-I started with 1mg of folic acid a day, but when I started shedding hair and had a few mouth ulcers it was upped to 2 mg a day. The side effects have all but disappeared. LaHi

I am going to ask about MTX. I use to take it with Folic acid, I was prescribed by my neurologist as a treatment for MS, before i had RA....maybe it was working on my RA and I didn't even know it.
