Cold fingers???? | Arthritis Information

So does anyone else have cold fingers?  My fingers are frequently cold, more specifically from the middle knuckle to the tips.  My hands feel warm, hot in some places, but the tips are almost always cold.  Anyone else have fingers that do that?  Any why does that happen?

Yes, me too, and I've noticed it getting worse.  One condition frequently associated with RA is Raynaud's (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/raynauds-disease/DS00433), however I do not have the hallmark color changes associated with it.  Interestingly enough, in finding that link to include here, I read that OTC cold medicines, especially those containing pseudoephedrine, can aggravate the condition.  That is significant for me as I have been taking a lot of them lately, so maybe that is why it has been worse.  I plan to talk to my rheumy about it on Friday when I see him. Sounds like Raynaud's to me.
I suffered with this  for six months before I went down with RA.

I'd be out early morning through winter taking shots and things got that bad I could not feel the camera.

It seems like I've always had a problem with cold fingers and ears - or at least in the past 10 years or more.   I keep gloves in all my jacket pockets from Sept - March  just in case the weather is a little chilly.   I should maybe mention this at my next appt.  It's only my 2nd winter with RA, so never really thought about a connection.     They say I have Raynards but mine don't do that horrible color change thing either. I honestly didn't even know I had it until I complained to my RD about it once and he looked back in my chart and said my previous doctor dx'ed it. Go figure.

If you go in and out of the air condition does it bother you? Mine sort of get numb at the tips.

In bad cases they prescribe medication used for high blood presure I think. I told my doctor I'd deal with it because it wasn't so bad I wanted to add another medication. He said that was fine if it wasn't bothering me that bad.

My toes do it too.
my Mom had Raynauds... Her fingers didn't change color but they were white when cold... Air conditioning in her car affected her fingers.. she would have to turn the vents off near her hands...
I hope it's not that!  good luck
yes sounds like raynauds. I have raynauds...my fingers turn very white and numb...then later will go to a reddish/purple colour when the feeling comes back.
Let your doctor know.
Thanks for all of the responses!  I have an appointment with my rheumy tomorrow.  So I'll let him know whats going on.  I did some reading about rynauds (sp??) and my fingers don't turn colors and yes, my toes are cold as well.  Even in the summer so I always wear socks an tennies.  Can't handle sandals...my feet get too cold! Beta blockers and cigarette smoking (as well as some other medications) can also cause symptoms of Raynaud's. I don't smoke or take anything that can cause this.  I have never been able to find anything online in respect to the cold drinks and numb fingertips.  Obviously I'm lowering my core temp, but is it mild Raynauds or what?  And surely I'm not the only person in the whole world this happens to.Hayley, I told my doctor today and he too, didn't have anything to say about it and then we got off the subject.  I hate that!

I was thinking of trying out these gloves, they're not expensive and I have a coupon for the site ( off with code FREE5 til Dec 15):

YOU HAVE A SERIOUSLY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS EVERYONE ON HERE. If you knew anyone personally you wouldn't be saying these things. I think it's YOU who needs to get a grip. These people are on here to learn about RA and talk with others going through this, NOT to put everyone down.
Please note the user name and number of posts above...this is not InflamedOnline, but Inflamed0nline (with a zero).  Sadly, someone has nothing better to do with their life than impersonate others on a message board.I have a definite color change from my finger tips to the first knuckle, but haven't been officially diagnosed, probably never will be, there is nothing they can do.  My body temperature and cold fingers, hands, feet, and toes have dramatically stabilized since switching meds.  Doesn't this have something to do with the nervous system triggering to stop the blood flow.
That would explain the touching of something cold....

Have not read enough about it so could be wrong
