HI guys had my MTX injection today, and my ESR has raised again, my previously well controlled BP is now 142/90 even on meds, my GP said if she had my probs her BP would be 170/100 and that I deserve a Nobel prize for coping with everything,

I have to have an iron transfusion again, had one almost 2 years ago so it lasted a while but my fatigue has been overwhelming so guys always remember its not just the RA that is making you tired, sometimes you may be iron deficient (from malabsorption in my case) get it checked and ferritin stores mine is extremely low on both counts.  I am having an upper endoscopy on the 26th as GORD is playing up bad! Will be a busy week, MOn transfusion, Tues travel to Brisbane 4 hrs on train, Weds Liam sees paed rheumy, Thurs I am seeing my Rheumy for Rituxan application and hopefully meeting a couple of ladies from here on Weds too re Prof Ranjeny Thomas, (Rheumatology researcher) meeting in Brisbane, I am looking forward to that, and then two nights with a dear friend before heading home,speak to you soon, hugs Janie.

janiefx2008-11-12 19:02:57Hey Jane;

I had my iron infusion yesterday....almost 6 hours at the hospital....boring.  I had my first iron injection almost 2 years ago then I had one last April.  My dr wanted me to have another one because my iron was starting to dip again. Hopefully this one will last a bit longer than the last.  It makes a huge difference.  My dr has also mentioned the possibility of doing a capsule endoscopy, where you swallow the little camera and it goes through you and takes pretty pictures.  I guess if my iron continues to go up and down he will order one of those in the next little while.
Good luck for the weekend and next week.  Hope you are feeling better soon.

Pam
Prayers going up for your strength janie- you got a heck of a week ahead of you! Best of luck to you! Best of luck in your busy week Janie.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family....Hiking_galThanks Hiking Gal, WTBF, and Pam, much appreciated, and Pam, I had that capsule endoscopy, wait t'il you see what you have to wear, I looked like a suicide bomber in a jacket that had wires and lights everywhere had to go away for 5 hours.  The results showed it went thru in 1 hour, the Dr said that wasreally rare and that I wasn't absorbing iron or vitamin and minerals due to NSAID and Steroid damage to the oesophagus and stomach so now like you I have to have transfusions and yes it took at least 6 hours.  Best of luck, hope it goes well if you need it, hugs Janie.XX

I'm thinking that my capsule endoscopy will be much like yours Jane.  I have food go through me in 2-3 hours sometimes.  I have really chronic diarrhea. My gastro just keeps doing gastroscopies and colonoscopies but never seems to make any real suggestions as to the problem.  I had a bunch of breath tests a couple of years ago that didn't show anything.  I'm up for a capsule because I think that I have much the same problem as you, I'm just not absorbing nutrients like I should be.  One more of the fun things that RA brings to our lives
