I am somewhat of a tea snob, I have never met a tea I didn't like, so my husband brought me back some loose leaf teas from his trip to San Diego. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked up the Rooibas tea and found this.
Rooibos has anti-carcinogenic and antimutagenic effects. Rooibos tea is
used for its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties.
Consumption of rooibos tea may relief fever, asthma, insomnia, colic in
infants and skin disorders. Rooibos extracts are used in ointments
against eczema. In South Africa it is very common to give rooibos tea
to babies who suffer from stomach cramps (colics).
Beneficial in the treatment of diabetes, high blood
pressure, irritability, headaches, stomach cramps, disturbed sleeping patterns,
insomnia, nervous tension, mild depression or hypertension, liver diseases,
allergies, cataracts, skin irritations and other conditions (especially when
applied directly to the affect area), mellitus, arteriosclerosis, and colic and
feeding problems in infants. The list continues: nausea and vomiting,
constipation, stomach ulcers, heartburn.
Rooibos is the only known source of the phytochemical aspalathin.
In vitro and animal studies have indicated that quercetin and luteolin
help to prevent cardiovascular disease, some cancers and stroke. Rutin
has been associated with the maintenance of blood vessels walls.
Because
rooibos contains no caffeine, it is suited for babies and children. The
low level of tannins in rooibos will prevent problems with iron
absorption.
I have been drinking about 3 cups a day since he brought it back and I have been feeling better so I was wondering if the tea was the reason. I had stopped all my meds except the Tylenol and Oral Contraceptive, because I didn't have the $ to get the prescriptions refilled. So It could be that I feel better because I am not taking the meds... hrmmm something to ponder.
interesting. I love tea. I prefer it iced and unsweet.
