Rooibos Tea? | Arthritis Information

I am somewhat of a tea snob, I have never met a tea I didn't like, so my husband brought me back some loose leaf  teas from his trip to San Diego. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked up the Rooibas tea and found this.

Rooibos has anti-carcinogenic and antimutagenic effects. Rooibos tea is used for its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. Consumption of rooibos tea may relief fever, asthma, insomnia, colic in infants and skin disorders. Rooibos extracts are used in ointments against eczema. In South Africa it is very common to give rooibos tea to babies who suffer from stomach cramps (colics).

Beneficial in the treatment of diabetes, high blood pressure, irritability, headaches, stomach cramps, disturbed sleeping patterns, insomnia, nervous tension, mild depression or hypertension, liver diseases, allergies, cataracts, skin irritations and other conditions (especially when applied directly to the affect area), mellitus, arteriosclerosis, and colic and feeding problems in infants. The list continues: nausea and vomiting, constipation, stomach ulcers, heartburn.

Rooibos is the only known source of the phytochemical aspalathin. In vitro and animal studies have indicated that quercetin and luteolin help to prevent cardiovascular disease, some cancers and stroke. Rutin has been associated with the maintenance of blood vessels walls.
Because rooibos contains no caffeine, it is suited for babies and children. The low level of tannins in rooibos will prevent problems with iron absorption.

I have been drinking about 3 cups a day since he brought it back and I have been feeling better so I was wondering if the tea was the reason. I had stopped all my meds except the Tylenol and Oral Contraceptive, because I didn't have the $ to get the prescriptions refilled. So It could be that I feel better because I am not taking the meds... hrmmm something to ponder.
interesting. I love tea. I prefer it iced and unsweet.

edited: because I miss read original post.
inflamedOnline2008-11-13 07:40:10If I sweeten it I use Honey, but I have learned to drink most with little or no sweeteners.  This is real interesting, I had been drinking Rooibus tea everyday with one teaspoon of a special herbal bitter and I liked it a lot and had been feeling better.  I havent been drinking it recently because I ran out and have not been feeling so great.  Jennmomm maybe there is some connection.

I am going to get some today, will report back in a couple of weeks
Can I buy this at any store  or a specialty store? Where do you get your tea?

THANKS!
My husband bought mine at Pannikin in the Gas Light district in San Diego. A lot of health food stores sell it, and you can get it online at Adagio Teas, where I buy a lot of my tea, probably other places online too. I get loose leaf, but I think you can find it in bags certain places as well.
http://www.adagio.com/rooibos/rooibos.html THANKS!!I buy mine at a tea boutique, but I know you can buy it at the grocery store here.I like some of the Adagio Rooibos teas.  My absolute favorite rooibos, however, is African Solstice from Tea Forté.  OMG heaven in a teacup!
