just seeing the news and the fire there in SB county looks really bad.

I hope you are okay.

Thanks Pam for asking.  I am O.K. but I have relatives in Santa Barbara and don't yet know how they are doing.  Hope to find out soon.   Very hot and windy here.Hi Jan,

I've been looking for you

It is really hot and windy here too.

I remember when we had the fires in Calabasas it was like it was dark outside during the day and the house was so smokey.  Be careful.  A lot of people here got sick from breathing the smokey air.

I hope your family is okay.
Pam-

Are you in Calabasas?
I live in West Hills, very close to Calabasas.

West Hills is nice, but has fire danger in that area.

No smoke here now but has been in past fires. I am careful.

Hope this is out soon.  They are doing all they can. Crossing my fingers.
Pam................you suck!!!  I'm so pissed at you!

I just got off the phone with my cousin in Santa Barbara - she is about 4 miles away, but she thinks they will be okay if the winds don't pick up again.  Pam, Jan - stay safe, we care for you in here, and I am sure all of us are sending loving thoughts and prayers to all in the fire danger area.

My cousin said there are so many helicopters and planes in the air, they set up a separate air traffic control area.  They were listing the birds in the sky, including the helicopter Oprah hired to check on her house - I hope this isn't true, because what disappointing behavior.  Never interfer with an emergency sitution, why not buy a tanker plane and send it in to help.  Geez.

Thanks, jsnm.  I am  not near this fire (about an hour south). I'm glad your cousin is okay.  hopefully the winds will die down so they can get a handle on it.  So many houses have been lost.

I think that is probably true about Oprah

Seriously,
The fires are so disturbing. I could not imagine the fear, disruption, and worry of living with these types of wide spread fires....so much lost already. Hoping for the best, stay safe.
At this time, how quickly the fires can be contained depends on the wind.

I saw a news conference yesterday on Santa Barbara TV with the mayor, supervisors, fire and police chiefs and they are VERY organized and taking care of business.  JSNM, there is information at www.keyt.com , the Santa Barbara station for anyone interested.  People are being very supportive of each other.

HOPING HOPING for the winds to die down.

Thanks Jan - I sent an email to my cousin early this morning and there is three hours difference, so I haven't had an update.  She sent some spectacular pictures too that her neighbor took from 20 miles away and it was UNREAL.  This is a monster.  I see Christopher Lloyd lost his home.  My thoughts and prayers are with all the people who have lost their cherished homes and possessions.  And over my lifetime, I cannot believe the number of people I personally know who have lost their home and possesions to a fire.  It's more common than I ever realized.  You stay safe.  Cathy

I just heard that the Santa Barbara/Montecito fire is 75% contained.  Yippeeee!!!!!

THere are others, though, so praying for them.
Jan, are you close to me? I'm sorry, I just don't remember. I'm in North San Diego County. We were hit badly last October and a few years before that.
I hope you stay safe! And Pam, too! I know there are more Californians than just the three of us, aren't there?
I know that all of us watch the sky, and try to keep well informed during the Santa Anas. That hot wind off the desert can spread the fires so fast and so far!
Stay safe! Thoughts and prayers are with everyone touched by the fires, including our brave firefighters.

Hugs, Nini

Hi Nini,

I am not sure if there are other Californians, I would think so, though.  Jan is in Santa Barbara, near the Montecito fire.

I get a sick feeling everytime there is a Santa Ana Wind warning.  You know there is always some nut out there waiting for that news

My cousin is a firefighter here in Los Angeles and I'm sure he is working one of these fires.
They are so brave and selfless....truely heroes.
Nini-

I'm in Ventura County.

I just heard that my relatives in Santa Barbara are O.K.  Yippeeeeeeee!!!!  One was not affected.  THe other was evacuated but his house is O.K.

Praying for all who were affected in all areas.
