Enbrel and Dental Surgery | Arthritis Information

I just found out the pain in my jaw is from a failed root canal from 20 years ago that is now abcessed.  Apparently, I'm looking at another implant.  I wasn't on Enbrel last time.  Does anyone know if you have to stop the Enbrel for dental surgery?  Heck, do you have to stop Enbrel for an abcessed tooth?

Sorry for the stupid questions.
I had to stop Humira and Methotrexate for a week to 2 weeks prior to surgery.  It's not fun......call your RheumieInteresting.  I am having a root canal next Monday.  The denitst referred me to a specialist cause it already has a cap on the tooth and they can go though the cap and not replace it.  Anyway I asked about the meds and he said he didn't have a clue!  I do have an abcess and he did not give me an antibotic.  I think if it were any longer to wait--I would call the RA dr but the dentist seemed to think this issue has been hanging around for awhile--like 8 or 9 years when I compalined of discomfort and they xrayed and said nothing was wrong--they would just watch it.  The discomfort went away and everyone figured everything was fine.  Anyway, it will be over and taken care before my next Humira injection.  I had a tooth extracted and my rd told me to not take my enbrel. I didn't take it for over 3 weeks until the hole in my gun filled in. Which was yesterday. I would call your rd and ask them.
Better be safe than sorry!
take care
My oral surgery didn't know either, so I called my rheumatologist.  He said 2 weeks before, no Enbrel/Humira/MTX, etc., and that I couldn't start to take it again until the wound was totally healed.

Those medications slow the healing process which leads to a chance of infection.  It was hard going without the meds, but the choice to make.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to stop the Enbrel.  Last time I stopped, I had a flare from h*ll!

Oh well, looks like maybe I'll have to.  I'll call the RD when they open.

Thanks guys!

Mine is not surgery.  Just a few needles--already crowned--will just be a filling.   I can't change anything now anyway and not postponing it.  However it does seem like the dentists ought to be more informed.  I had to stop my enbrel for dental treatment, its for infection risk. I stopped mine for a month, a week for the abcess to go with antibiotics and then i had to go back to the dentist to have the first part of the root canal done a week later i went back for the second part to be completed
