Vitamin C-Immune boosters | Arthritis Information

Hello.

My doctor is away untill next week so i thought i would post my query here with the experts! Do you know if there is any contraindication with autoimmune diseases and taking immune boosters like vitamin C or other anti-oxidants? Also wondering if anyone has tried eating flaxseed with good results in terms of pain and inflammation. I still dont' knwo what i have, but i know it is spreading! FUN FUN FUN!

Thanks everyone!

Ali

I've heard a lot about flaxseed and how good it is for our health. I eat it sometimes but not enough to see a difference. It comes in a package so that you can add it in soups, salads, etc. and then it comes in a liquid form as well which doesn't tastes like much but sometimes I like that better...LOL!hatehavingra38674.519375Everyone is always talking about fish oils.
I think wheat and sugar are bad for me.
Apparantly if you fast things get really good!
I have also heard that you must not pump up the immune system too much as that is the main problem with RA , hence the immunosuppressant.../

Yeah, Cathy's right about that. We were recently discussing this topic on another forum recently and I was not aware of this but it can be a problem if you aren't careful.

I'll try to get more info for you and post it later.

Well the discussion I was referring to Echinacea. You might be interested to see a little information on the topic. Our friend Wayney posted this at RAF and I'm sure if you have more questions on the subject you can PM her. She's well informed on so many of these topics and what she doesn't know she can find before you can ask twice.

I was interested in the subject as well because I take MTX & Humira and I tend to catch things easily....and have a really hard time shaking them once I get them. The biggest problem with this is that I have to come off my meds during that time and that becomes a problem in a fairly short amount of time.

Good Luck

The doctors would like your immune system to be a little depressed.  That way they control the progression of the RA better.  Seems that our immune systems has gone awry and it attacks us thinking it is protecting us., so if you depress it, by way of drugs, then it makes it harder for the damage to take place.  You up the immune system  then our immune system starts attacking with more fury again.

I just started using fish oil but I think I am seeing a slight improvement on the pain and stiffness.  I do know they say that Omega 3 fatty fish oil is good for RA.  My RD knows I take it and drink 3 or more  glasses of green tea a day, she has not said anything about it to me.

Echinecea, is definitely a no no for people with RA Lupus, MS and other auto immune diseases.  I suggest any one thinking about taking it read the link the Lovie provided.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Thank you so much for all of your imput! I am wondering if flax seed oil is as good as the fish oil?

Hi NYALI,

I found this information about the use of oils for RA...

It's kind interesting...

From what they are saying, the jury is still out on the fish oil...Ok..I can handle that, I still will have a much healthier heart but the same possible aches and stiffness from RA...One out of 2 is better than nada...LOL.
