Wobbly, shaky muscles | Arthritis Information

Hello again!

Yesterday a horrible thing happened. i had to leave my teaching job after only 15 minutes because of my symptoms. I woke up absolutely weak and miserable and in so much pain. My muscles just weren't cooperating. I was having trouble walking (tripping on things) and going down stairs my legs were shaky and weak. My arms as well...so much pain and weakness. I looked up ALS on google but it seems that pain is involved late in that disease, and my probs all began with pain.

My ankles are hurting so much now. it seems every single tendon hurts. I sure wish someone would figure out what is going on with me. i am going to some well-known neurologist next week just to see if anything else can be determined. My inflammatino can only be seen on MRIs. i do nto get the typical RA swelling and i am so sero-negative. I am very confused and afraid since thsi just gets worse and only prednisone helps it. I do nto want to go back on prednisone at ALL. The azlufidine i hav ebeen taking for 7 weeks now...not doing a thing yet. I think this is more autoimmune than inflammation. I have no idea what i am talking about, i just know it came out of nowhere and it seems to enjoy me very much, every part of me.

OK. Sorry for all the morose-ness.

Alison

Judging by what you are saying  your symptoms have been going on for awhile and you are seeing a DR. I would have told you to go to a Neurologist also which you are doing. Have you taken any of the biologics such as Enbrel?? They can trigger MS like symptoms. Take a breath and go 1 step at a time. Call your Dr also and explain what pain you are going through. Good Luck, we have been there...Geoff

I have woke up like that many, many mornings. On days like that I will take advantage of my narcotic pain medication and a hot shower. If I got in the bathtub they would have to call a crane to get me out.....LOL I will also lay around most of the day.

With RA in my case I have more of the stiffness in the joints and muscles than I have the nodules and swelling of the joints. I also have the kind where I have "flu" like symptoms. I will even run a low grade temp at times.

When I was working it was really hard to get through the day at times. I would come home and just collapse. Needless to say I am not working any longer. I think it has helped in many ways but I sure do miss it.

I hope that you get some answers from your physicians. Seems like you are having a really hard go of it. Hang in there.

I am having the same problem right now...

NYALI...is that short for New York Alley or New York Ali or a combo of both?   I love the name...LOL.

Can't seem to hold on to anything and my right hand feels very strained and very weak, knee's are off the wall on the pain measurement scale. Achy all over but no raise in temp. I sometimes feel like I am going to fall over ( webble's wobble but they don't fall down...heehee)  But then again, that could be the OA, waking up after a terrible fall I had 1.5 years ago, on both of the knee's   I started Enbrel 3 weeks ago and not much happening yet...Keeping my fingers crossed that it does work.

Like Lesle, I am not getting any nodules or any real swelling, just general malaises that always seem to feel like low grade, something or other.  I also have to keep a watch out for Lymphedema from the BC, which this could be the beginning of.( the wrist, hand and arm strain).

We always have to keep a watchful eye on our RA, there is always some type of changes going on with us.

Don't wait too long to see a doctor about your symtoms...Any doctor...Better to be on top of what is happening to you, early on.

I am not working now but have been thinking about going back to work, part time...At least I am hoping I can.

Keep us posted NYALI,  We will keep you in our thoughts.

Hi, I'm new to the message board. I don't even know if I have RA. I have
had two blood tests run in the last two months that have come back with
a high rheumatoid factor. I've been sick with a flu/sinus infection/
pneumonia type of thing for 3 months now. I thought that the joint pain
and muscle weakness was from the illness, but now I'm not really that
sick any more, but I still have sore hands, wrists, and feet, and my legs
are extremely wobbly. I keep saying that I feel like I'm telling them what
to do and they aren't doing it.

I'm scared and don't know if I have RA or not. I'm going to see a
rheumatologist in February, so I guess I just have to play the waiting
game until then.

Does anyone have any advice or experience to help me through this time?

Welcome Aboard AI... JillyX...

So glad to meet you.

Feeling a little wobbly could be from having the flu/sinus infection/pneumonia.  I had the flu many years ago and the one thing I can still remember, is how long it took for me to get my sea legs back...I felt shaken all over for quite some time after the flu.

With having a high RA factor, could mean you might be in a RA flare.  Which is not at all unusual after having a recent illness like the flu/pneumonia.

Why do you have to wait so long to see a Rheumatologist. Can you see an Internist sooner?  if so, he/she can give you a answer to the RA question too. Not that I think an Internist is better, definitely not but if you can't see an Rheumatologist sooner, then maybe an Internist.

Many people use Motrin for their pain or Aleve or Tylenol.  I used Motrin mostly.  Use what ever helps you the best.  Try and get as much rest as you can.  RA can and will make you extremely tired and that will set you up for other problems.  Warm or cold compresses on the area's that are hurting you and I have found that if I take my shower at night I got a better sleep but if I took it in the morning my pain lessened.  So I decided to shower twice a day, while I was feeling bad...worked out pretty good and did aleve some of the pain and soreness.

I hope that you can get some relief soon,  You sure have had a lot on your plate, when it came to being ill...

Please keep us posted as to how you are feeling.

Once again, it's nice to meet you.

Hi JillyX,

Welcome to this message board! I am fairly new too (just joined the other day). I have had RA for the last 3 years. My advice to you is to really get enough rest and don't over do it. We all usually know our bodies the best. Hot showers for me in the morning would ease the stiffness. Ice would help relieve any swelling in my joints. I also soak my hands in hot ginger soak. I make a brew of fresh ginger. Boil water with about a pound of cut up fresh ginger, use enough water so it goes well above the ginger, lower boil and simmer for an hour, then cool off (I like it as hot as I can stand) and soak my hands for 15 mins. At first soak, there is some tingling. You can save the rest in the fridge and reuse. Make sure it is stored in the fridge or otherwise the brew will mold. Good luck with the doctor's appt. but I'd try to get seen sooner. HTHhatehavingra38674.9208680556Hi Jilly:  Just hoping your feeling better - I was diagnosed in March this year and on reflection I really wish I had gone to see a doctor sooner. I too was waiting six months to see a rheumatologist but I wish my family doctor (who I had seen during this painful period) would have been more helpful while I was waiting. So, if it is RA the sooner you can start the appropriate medication the better. This site has been more helpful than the doctors I might add!!    Gill

Thank you all for your supporting words. I would love to get into the doctor sooner, I think that I'll make some calls to other doctors in the area.

Today my wrists are hurting really badly. I put a hot compress on them and that helped.

Thank you for the support!
