MTX Blues... | Arthritis Information

A few weeks ago I wrote to you about me starting MTX Injections.  It has been week 3 and I am still having nausea, tiredness, and weakness.  I thought it would get better.  Shoot...it is no difference in that respect.

YET...I can feel the difference in my body and energy level.  It is great...but the suffering I go through after my shot...MAN.

I don't wish this on anyone.  For this drug to be so benefical to us...it is a pain in other ways.

Today...I am struggling at work to stay focused. Lord knows it will get better after today...but I am having a hard time right now.

This weakness makes it hard to focus...and the nausea is horrid.

I just needed to vent my true feelings...

Thanks...Roblyn

Roblyn~Are you taking Folic Acid as well?

I've never really had that problem with MTX and I didn't even start taking Folic Acid until about two years or more into it. They say it makes a really big difference though....hopefully you aren't already taking it and that might make the difference. If you are; I'm not sure what to tell you. MTX has really been a good medication for me.

I hope you feel better soon.....and this problem eases up and doesn't continue to happen week after week.

Good Luck.

Have you tried Arava? I read so many posts about side effects of mtx and no one on Arava seems to be complaining. I'm on it and my only side effect is thinning hair.

I have been taking folic acid for about a year and that may be what has helped me not have these ill effects after taking MTX. Last night I took my thrid dose and had no side effects at all. I had felt a little queazy and a had a slight headache with the first two doses, but not today.

I like you have had so much more energy this week. It feels almost like a depression has een lifted that I did not know I even had.

Hope that you can get some relief soon!

Are you taking your MTX at night or at the day time?  I use to take mine at night.  Friday nights to be exact but I would get a bad headache and feel like I had the start of the flu.  So I changed it to Saturday mornings and in a short time I actually could see that my side effects where lessening...(I may not have noticed it as much because of being more active in the day time) Also, my RD took me off folic acid and put me on leucovorin and that seem to do a better job on the side effects and mouth sores, that I was getting.  I have heard of people taking there MTX in several doses than all at once and that seem to help them out to.  I would ask your doctor if he/she thought it might be better to break the MTX in smaller doses.  I have a friend who is just staring on her MTX and her doctor said she can take it in 3 doses through out the week...now that one I have never heard of but it could be possible to do it that way.  As time goes on and your body gets use to the med.  it will get better for you.

I hope you start feeling better and soon.

Yes I take Folic Acid daily.  I have increased my dose...but it is still not covering it.  I opted out of ARAVA because my Husband and I are in the future trying to have children.  In taking to my doctors the MTX cycles out of a womens system much faster then the ARAVA.

It will get better...I was just wondering if other had those symptoms like I do.

Thanks so much for responding...Roblyn
