hi I am new here  but  I don't have RA I have PsA,  osteo and fibro. I have talked to my rheumatology nurse about the mouth sores I have developed and she has lowered my dose of MTX back down to 6 tabs weekly  (I see the doc in 2 weeks)as I guess 10  is too much. I forgot to ask her will these happen all the time or just when the dose is too high? I have been on  a graduated dose of MTX for going on 7 weeks ( with naproxsen for the osteo knee that looks almost normal again yahoo)and am so happy to be out of pain.  Any how can anyone give me any advice about mouth sores? I am going to post my questions here in RA forum as it is a busy place to be it seems  Thanks Does she also have you on folic acid with the MTX?  I finally had mine cultured and it was positive for mouth herpes simplex.  I have a script of Valtrex? (I dont want to go upstairs and look) for the next outbreak.  But I realized that I haven't had an outbreak since I started the minocin a year ago.  Good luck.  CathyI've never been plagued with mouth sores.  I'm on 17.5 mg. of MXT.  I do rinse my mouth with a mild hydrogen peroxide rinse.  I dilute 3:1 water and peroxide and rinse every other day.  Lindyhi yes I am on 5mg of folic acid plus assorted vitamins and naproxsen 500mg am and pm  I am fortunate to be off the narcotics and walking again. 6weeks ago it was leg braces and cane. I will try the peroxide rinse thanks for the tip.   EIf you use a toothpaste with sodium lauryl sulfate, that can contribute to mouth sores/canker sores.  You might want to switch to a non-SLS toothpaste and see if that helps.   hi yes I did that when I developed lichen planus last year. I use a all natural toothpaste that my dentist abhors . yes snowowl  they are a pain. I have been swishing with salt water and it helps alot and they are healing . At least they have stopped spreading. I have to take the MTX tommorrow 15mg instead of 25. I hope it does not cause the sores to flare up.  thanks everyone for your replies.
