Has anyone have bad musle pain with there Ra. The doctor told me that it is cause by my Ra.but i don't know could it be caused from me taking predisone 20mg. I don't have alot of muscle pain until I take al my mrds in the morning. And that is predisone and a b/p pill. I am just wondering because I don't buy what the doctor is telling me because of that reason or I take a water pill to and is another blood pressure pill. Just wondering. If any of you have this let me know Joanangel58,

I'm not positive here, but can't a water pill lower your potassium?  If you are low in potassium, it can cause muscle cramping.  Is that the type of pain you are experiencing?
I have muscle pain  from the joint to about 6 inches up the arms or legs.
my RD says its nerve pain, the joints hurt so much the brain t is sending pain signals from everywhere.

 I use heat/ice/BenGay and a hubbyrub..

Right now I am on Gabapentin (Neurontin) and vicodin as well as my regular Tramadol.

kathy_in_wlsv2008-11-27 10:48:09I get muscle pain because of RA. That's probably my most prominant symptom.

Have you considered taking fish oil supplements? They can help both with inflammation and high blood pressure.Angel,

Have you had your Vitamin D levels checked?  Low Vitamin D can cause muscle pain and weakness......
i do get quite a bit of muscle pain -- and have alway assumed it goes part and parcel with the disease.Absolutely it can be RA. I have always had muscle pain with joint pain. Never had it any other way myself, unfortunately.

It a myth that RA only affects our joints.

If you have massive amounts of inflammation in your body, as someone with RA does, then it can affect everything - organs, eyesight, speech and muscles.

I am poly (many joints) so I hurt everyday from my nose to my toes, that includes muscles, not just joints. If someone pokes a finger in my muscle I will literally scream out loud it is so painful. Often, also I can feel the heat of the inflammation under my skin, in muscular areas.

So yeah, it probably is RA. It is possible that both Pred and your bp med may be contributing to this situation. I never put anything past Prednisone, Thanks for the infromation. I have more problems with my muscles then the joints some times. weather to will play a part in this awful pain. I just hate it I wonder will I ever get any relief. I take percocet 5 mg and I'll tell you it was used for the lasr few days. I think I will crawl back in bed. I didn't sleep very well last night. I ask him if I could take something over the counter and he said NO AND THAT WAS IT. But thanks for all the infro you all gave me. Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving. JoanAre you on any pain relief except the Percocet 5mg?

If you aren't you probably need to be on a sustained release and fast acting regime for the RA pain whether it is joints or muscles it doesn't matter.

As for getting relief...well, the reality of that is on a proper pain relief regime what you will get is a level of comfort that you didn't have without it. We can have really high expectations about our pain levels and they are not always realistic.

Do crawl back into bed if you need it and you can. We need to be really self nurturing with this disease and sometimes that means back to bed we go.

Also consider finding a Pain Management Psychologist to work with, they can be extremely helpful.

I know how pain can get you down. For me I have had over a eleven years of constant, gnawing pain that rarely lets up. Watch your depression levels with the pain levels. Often when the pain is worse, we become quite depressed (anyone would) and when it eases off the depression lifts again. You may wonder why you are feeling down and not realise that it is connected directly to your pain levels.

I definitely have muscle pain with my RA. When I am really hurting and my muscles feel like they are firing off and won't settle down, I take Lyrica. I can take it with my vicodin, and it really, really helps. Angel - I was also diagnosed with polymyositis with my RA diagnosis - you might want to check it out.  It also has a possible infection-based connection:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymyositis

Polymyositis is a type of inflammatory myopathy, related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. Polymyositis means 'many muscle inflammation'.
