OT Film: Australia | Arthritis Information

I saw a review of the new film Australia now out with Nicole Kidman.  The photography looked great with great views of Australia.  I wonder if any of our Aussies have seen it.Hi Jan,

I've been to the towns where it was filmed but haven't seen the movie yet. It looks great in the previews doesn't it? The little aboriginal boy is a real charmer, think he'll steal the show for me.

In 1972 when I was 20 I had a working holiday on Groote Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, peeling shrimps (prawns).  The Island is owned by an aboriginal clan and any visitors had to be given their permission to visit there. It's tropical, very hot and the children were beautiful, and fun-loving. I took a swim in a shallow spot of the pristine ocean and quickly had a large group of giggling boys aged to about 10 years gathered on the shore around me.

The next morning I found out why it was so entertaining to them. There he was. 12 foot alpha-male crockodile, owner of this particular bay, and their totum 'dreaming'. Their sense of humor is not so different to that of white Aussies.
I have not seen this as yet but I want to,     just for the photography.

From what I have read the story line is full of bull with some racist overtones thrown in for good measure.
Jeez Bodak, that's a bit harsh. Jurassic Park, The Matrix, Star Wars, it's all bullsh*t. We don't want reality at the theatre, we get plenty of that for free. When a film is meant to be based on some historical facts and portrays the dead opposite then that is bull.
The films you have mentioned were never meant to be anything other than light entertainment.

One part of the film depicts us nasty whites sending children to an island that lies in the path of the invading forces when in fact the opposite occurred
We were evacuating the islands as fast as we could and sending the people as far away as possible, out of harms way. .

Another strong theme is about the "stolen generation".
To date, not one piece of documented evidence can prove that we stole children for pure racist reasons.

I've just mentioned two pieces of bull that I know of.
If it makes people feel good about how nasty we are (were) then good for them.

If a film is meant to be based on historical facts then stick to those facts and not push a left wing ideology.

There are just to many people that want to think the worst about all manner of things at the moment including climate change.
the film has received lousy reviews.....Bodak-

Interesting comments.  Glad you expressed your take on this film.
HI Bodak, I feel the same as you, haven't seen it yet but I hope to very soon.  This film is one mans view (Baz Luhrman) of history in Australia, if we don't take it too seriously then it will be enjoyable. I hope they get more people viewing it than so far as it cost 0 million to make.  But I feel the world will view Australia differently, in a more negative way.  Janie. Seems a lot of people are bagging this movie.
From one of our own.
