Pain is unbearable | Arthritis Information

 Hi,

I'm new to computers so please forgive me if I don't know what I'm doing. I was diagnosed in 2000 with Osteoarthritis at the time I was in the hospital for a month due to my let leg which I have lyphodema my left leg is three times the size of my right.
Since then the Osteoarthritis which I have in my knees & shoulders has gotten so bad that I need a wheel chair  to get around. The pain is so unbearable that I can't do anything anymore & have found myself that when I use my walker I fall for no reason.
My Doctor tells me just to take Tylenol arthritis I have asked him about medication I can take but he does not seem interested the Tylenol does nothing other than this I'm in good shape.
What I would like to know is what medication is out there that I can ask him about?. I'm seriously thinking of getting another doctor I just can't take the constant pain that I live with everyday & it's getting worse.
I would be most appreciative if you could please inform me about medication that may work? as I know nothing about this so when I do see him again I can talk too him about it. Thank you so much for your time & help.
margret - I posted this on another tread - please dont be upset with the cut and paste - but my hands hurt like H^%$.

I went to a specialist the first time today - what an awesome doctor - took so much time with me - but then again I had a three page typed paper of my symptoms, medical and social history.  My PC sent me because she thought it was RA - this doc says  Osteoarthritis and Fibro - put me on three different meds - one for the inflamed joints, one narcotic for pain (darvocet) and then ambien to help me sleep at night - supposed to see him again in 4 weeks and get xrays.

My suggestion - find another doc - one that you are comfy with - I guess I got lucky - Im hoping to get lucky with SSD - that I am going to apply for next week.

This doc was awesome - was even comfortable enough to talk about my history of depression - and he is willing to work with my psy, doc - I am amazed.

Prayers are with you
I agree.  Shop around and find another doc.  I had one Rheumy (rheumatologist) and he seemed totally disinterested.  When I came down with a severe case of iritis, my eye doc sent me to a different Rheumy and this one is a sweety heart.  I have OA, RA and AS...hehehe..I'm just full of initials.

The good doc is an expert in meds.  for his OA people he recommends Tylenol....but not just a couple a day....it is safe to take up to 3,000mg/day for OA pain with far fewer side effects than any of the prescription meds that are available.  At night take Tylenol PM to help you sleep.

The thing is coping with the pain, the fatigue from the pain and the depression from the pain takes a huge amount of energy.  You should have a doc that you feel is on your side!
If you have unbearable pain for 3 months you need to be seen - it could be a break that has gone untreated.
Go to an ER - when they bill you tell them you can't pay.

I know something that can help you would you like to hear more.
