Equally important is the need to not fall prey to the lust for technology - do you really need a brand-new quad-core processor to surf the web and play solitaire... or is that three-year old computer still up to the task? Perhaps a new memory module or hard drive can buy a few more years, and keep another computer out of the landfill. Same with cellphones. Sure the new ones are neat, cool and sexy... but unless your old one is broken, do you really need this year's hot new phone?

It's something I struggle with, being a geek with $$$
